It is one thing to write a book, it is another thing to write a product that is for sale, functional, for sale. One of the things that even great publishers can never guarantee is the success of a book۔ Deteriorating conditions, trends, and international events will affect consumer preferences. That said, there are still ways to use the marketing feature to your advantage, and how they do it.
1). Understand your students. We are not just talking about your male or female students. You will want to know more about your audience. How many learners are there (grade)? Are students married, married, or divorced? Where do your students live (usually)? How do your students make a living? What other books/books are they reading? Create a profile that includes where they shop, where the clubs are, etc.
These features will help you incorporate these elements into your book * and * help you find better marketing opportunities (i.e.publishing and stores).
2). Keep track of your market. How is your book market? Is there a trend where you put yourself? Are you reading all the publications related to this topic/index? Are there any “holes” that your book can fill? What is the future of this market/topic? For example, suppose you are a journalist who wants to publish a live chick. Go to any bookstore and you can't help but see the cutsie, pink, cartoon covers. Many thought that the practice was about to end, but something happened recently. What do you know about the trends related to your book/topic/audience?
3). To same books. What else is published in your article? Have you read all ten books in your section? If you don't have one, you should. You will want to know everything you can about how it is perceived in the market and what is available. It is not a problem to have the same topic. When I published No More Rejections - Get Published Today, I knew there were other books available for marketing. I read them all - and put my book in a different way.
4). Accept and stay current. What is happening in your industry today? What are some hot buttons? What do people want? What's next for the topic/audience? If you don't seem to be able to collect this information through regular channels, why not look at your target audience? There are a number of free survey sites, SurveyMonkey is one of them: http://www.Surveymonkey.com
5). Watch and act on the media. What are the media talking about these days? Follow the stories - they care what they write about. Scroll to the front page of your paper to go to the second or third page and see what fills the pages. If you can get your hands on the outer sheets, do a comparative review. Do you see the process in its installation? Does anything seem to be popular even on page six?
6). Listen, teach, speak. One of the best ways I communicated with my audience was by teaching the class and conducting interviews. When I put together my book, Get Published Today, I discovered that the classes I was teaching provided valuable information on making a great book because it directly connected me to my audience!
7). Time is everything. When do you plan to have an abortion? Do you release during the holidays or celebrations? Can you take advantage of any upcoming event and/or holiday to launch your book?
