Self-Injury: How to Stop this Dangerous Practice

Many people think that why anyone would practice self-injury, as it is harmful and dangerous. There are several researches as to why this practice can be prevalent in autistic children, and there are some pro-tips you can use to get rid of this distressing practice. Because autistic children cant communicate with others like normal people can, they often feel frustrated at not being understood or at not getting what they exactly need or want at that mean time after that, autistic children may commit self-injury, by hitting their heads or biting themselves (or many ways to get injured), to release some of that frustration or angriest that cannot be communicated through words. Also, they will get more attention after self-injury. An autistic children's wants more attention. For instance, by scratching or pinching oneself until it bleeds, the autistic child will immediately get someone’s attention, and this person will work to understand what the child wants or needs. They think that this will actually work for them to get immediate attention. Recently, however, researches have shown that self-injury can have a biochemical component that relieves some pain and frustration one feels by releasing endorphins, or “happy hormones,” into one’s system. The drug also provides relief for a child with autism, which allows him or her to temporarily forget his or her frustration and pain for a period of time. In addition, with sufficient self-harm, endorphins help hide the pain associated with such behaviors and are thought to be addictive behaviors. Some experts say that ignoring self-harm in children with autism is a smart way to break the habit, but it can certainly be very difficult. Others suggest that communication therapies and medications can help by providing a variety of communication methods for children with autism. Addictive behaviors include medications that block the behavior and prevent the body from releasing endorphins. Food solutions are also available. Vitamin B6 and calcium are said to help many families with children with autism. Communication training to learn how to communicate with a child with autism is also very important for affected families. Because normal adults, children, and adolescents are also used to communicating with easily recognizable words and gestures, it is important to understand that communicating with a child with autism requires an entirely different process. This painful habit can be overcome by finding solutions for both self-harming families and children with autism.

In most cases, this problem is largely overlooked in order to prolong the patient's lifespan or to make the patient's final days as comfortable and pain-free as possible. For most medical professionals, the physical aspect of death is much easier to deal with than the emotional and psychological aspects.

Due to the terminal illness, additional materials such as magazines and pamphlets have been circulated over the years. Most mental health experts say that during "terribly scary" times, mental health has a visibly positive effect on a person's overall mood, but it prevents them from falling into depression. They can be helpful and are usually easy to find in the offices of doctors and professionals who deal with these issues on a regular basis.
