Climate change is becoming an ever-increasing risk to global public health. Increases in temperatures, extreme weather conditions, and altering ecosystems are responsible for the spreading infectious diseases and increasing existing health concerns. One of the most disturbing impacts is the increase in vector-borne diseases, such as malaria, dengue, and Lyme disease. Warm climates favor the survival of mosquitoes, ticks, and other vectors in regions that were previously temperate, thus exposing new populations to these diseases. Furthermore, irregular weather patterns, including floods and droughts, result in water contamination and outbreaks of waterborne diseases such as cholera. Air pollution as well as high intensities of allergens resulting from changes in climate heighten respiratory disease among patients afflicted by asthma as well as other illnesses like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) . Heat waves increase in magnitude, posing health risk in addition to mortality with cases being registered of heat-stroke especially when patients are on frailer scales due to extreme weakness. Currently, climate-related disturbances are affecting agricultural yields; thereby, food security and nutrition are compromised. This leads to malnutrition as well as food borne illnesses in many parts of the world. Furthermore, these unforeseen disturbances in nature have increased mental health problems due to stress and displacement caused by the changes. To solve the mentioned problems, integration of climate resilience into public health strategies, improving disease surveillance, and practicing sustainability are critical interventions that mitigate effects on health resulting from climate change. There is a need for proactive global collaboration to ensure protection of human health from a changing planet.
