On average, most people clean their shelves at least twice a year. They take all the clothes they no longer wear to charities and thrift stores. Most people donate clothes that have only been worn twice or are still tagged. The most common thrift stores where you can find such clothing are the Salvation Army and Goodwill. They both check clothing for stains, so you can be sure that you will find great quality clothing for men, women and children at a very affordable price. Many people think that these thrift stores only carry vintage clothing but this is not the case. Clothes are stretched before babies wear them out or fade into style. There are also many articles on clothing that has never been worn, including t-shirts and denim jeans. Even if you can not find the styles offered at the trendy retailers in the area, you can find plenty of quality clothing at a lower price than you can pay anywhere. I walked through thrift stores with clothing bags at a lower price than I could buy at a retail store. Jackets are very expensive but not if you buy them from a thrift store. There are plenty of winter jackets, pullovers and windbreakers to choose from. Most thrift stores vary by the variety of clothing and sizes to easily find the right size for items. However, you will have to spend your time looking at what is available. The downside is that if you find what you really like and it doesn't fit you will not be lucky enough to find it in another size as you do in department stores. Depending on the location of the thrift store, they may also carry a variety of home furnishings. Some large facilities provide used furniture, equipment and books. I once found some good wooden end tables in a thrift store, I love them so much that I can now make them but I have never replaced them. Most thrift stores have a bad reputation for looking like a shopping mall for people who don't have much money. If your pride prevents you from going to the thrift store, you will throw away your money. If you never go to a thrift store you really need to take the time to do so. You will be surprised to see what you will find there. Shopping at grocery stores is another good option. These are the places where people take their unwanted clothes and furniture to sell. The store will share the profits from anything with the person who brought it. Most merchandise items are only visible for a limited time. Items at the end of that time frame are usually sold at a discounted price before being removed from the list of items to be sold. You will pay more for the goods in the grocery store than in the thrift store, but you can also find some amazing deals that will still save you money if you buy them retail. The reason you pay more is because the person selling the goods and the shop wants to make as much profit as possible. However you can not usually negotiate prices. A good example of saving money at a thrift store or grocery store is party dresses, wedding dresses and prom dresses. They can only be worn once, so it would be unwise to spend hundreds of dollars for a gown like this. You can still find a good dress option that is in style. Even if you have to pay to change clothes a little, you can get beautiful dresses at no cost.
