PM Modi paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the statue of unity on his 144th birthday anniversary. The statue of unity was inaugurated last year to honor SARDAR PATEL. Modi govt has been observing Sardar PATEL' s birth anniversary as National Unity Day since 2014.
Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel (31 October 1875 -- 15 December 1950 ) was one of the founding fathers of the Republic of INDIA. He played a leading role in the country's struggle for independence and guided its integration into a united, independent nation as the First Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of INDIA.
He was popular named as ' iron man of India'. He was a member of the Indian National Congress and fought the British for freedom.
He was appointed as the 49th President of the Indian National Congress organizing the party for elections in 1934 and 1937 while promoting the Quit INDIA Movement.
The statue of unity the world's tallest statue was dedicated to him on October 2018 which is approximately 182 metres ( 597 feet ) in height.
