Rental Income Tax: Tax is not to be paid on the income of 10 lakhs annually from rent, know how to get exemption

This time, the budget included significant tax reform. The finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, announced that no taxes will be levied on income up to a maximum of seven lakh, but that if it exceeds this amount, tax will be levied.

On the other hand, if you receive rental income, you are exempt from paying tax on income up to a maximum of Rs. 10 lakh. Please provide some examples of how we would avoid paying taxes on a ten thousand rupee income.

Under the new tax regime, if your income is Rs 7.5 lakh, you can avail of a standard deduction of Rs 50,000.

On annual income of Rs. 3 to 6 lakhs, five percent tax must be paid, and 10% tax must be paid for yearly income of Rs. 6 to 7 lakhs.

A deduction of up to 30% of net annual income is claimed for the repair and maintenance of the house. This means that you can get a deduction of up to Rs 3 lakh on an income of Rs 10 lakh, which means that your total income will be Rs 7 lakh and you will not have to pay any tax.

How to Calculate What Property Taxes You Owe

Owning a home is wonderful. There’s so much more you can do with it than you can do with a rental. You can own pets, renovate, mount things to the wall, paint, and make many other decisions and changes. Unfortunately, owning a home also comes with additional responsibilities. Some of these include upkeep and maintenance, but you can’t forget to pay your property taxes, either. If you’re asking yourself the question, "How much is my property tax bill?" then this how-to guide is for you. Discover how to calculate property taxes to avoid surprises and budget properly.

Start with the assessed value.

Your property tax bill is based on the assessed value of your property. If you’re dealing with raw land, you’ll have a very different property tax assessment than if you have a home, garage, or other improvements. Every one to five years, tax assessors value your property and use that as the foundation for your property tax statement going forward. The actual tax rate used varies depending on the state and county you live in.

Understanding the Mill Rate

To calculate the amount of your property tax, you multiply your property’s assessed value by the mill rate. One mill equals one-tenth of one cent, or $1 for every $1,000 of a property’s value. Frequently, communities decide how much tax revenue they need each year and then set the mill rate so that the total value is achieved through property taxes.

A mill rate of 35 is 3.5% of your home’s value. A mill rate of 15 is 1.5%. This helps you know what to expect when it’s time to pay your property tax bill online or through the mail. Different communities have different needs and rates. For instance, a Florida property tax will be very different than a North Carolina property tax. Pennsylvania property tax records will be a far cry from what someone in a county like Broward pays for property taxes. Rural areas are taxed at different rates than urban areas, too.

Paying property taxes with your mortgage

Many homeowners never see an online property tax bill or receive one in the mail because their property taxes are included in their mortgage payments. When you pay your personal property tax monthly, it helps you avoid having sticker shock from a single large payment. You also never have to worry about missing the property tax due date and incurring late fees or penalties.

If you’re paying a mortgage, your lender has likely set up what’s called an escrow account or impound account. Part of your payment each month goes into this account, and your lender then uses it to pay for things like property taxes or even your homeowners insurance when these payments are due. Once your mortgage is paid off, you’ll start making your property tax payments to the local government agency that collects them.
