RELIGION- A BANE OR A BOON

Hello, Namaste, Salam Wa Alaikum, shalom to all the amazing people out there who are reading this article. Well, you guessed it right. this article is about religions, that's why I started it with those salutations.

As I think, A religion is a set of certain rules and beliefs for people to live their lives happily and peacefully. Currently, there are around 4200 religions in the world. Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism are the four major religiions with Christianity at the top of this list havinng approximately 2.4 billion followers followed by Islam having approximately 1.8 billion followers. Isn't it fascinating that the two religions make almost half of the world's population. more than 90% of the population follow one or another religion and believe in God in one form or Another, while more than 5% are agnostic.

Well, enough of the Mathematics. we were talking about the purpose of religions. Religions were created to make our lives simpler and easier but the question is - Are they doing their job? Are they making our lives happy and simple? Are they able to fill our hearts with love? Well, I don't think so. They are doing just apposite now a days. Why is that?

It has been human nature to divide so that they would be able to stand a chance to feel superior to others. If there was no religion, people would divide in groups on the basis of class, race, ethinicity or something like that. They just simply feel good when they can say - "We are better than this group or that group". It gives them satisfaction.

Most of the people think that their religion is best and they have found the true God. So, they are definitely going to the heaven and this way they overcome their insecurities. Now I remember a particular scene from the famous fantacy show "Game of Thrones" where Sir Davos Seaworth was talking about God to a pirate who had been to different places and the pirate said, "people in different places have different Gods and think that they have got the right one". Well, I don't remember the exact words but the implication was the same as I have mentioned above. It was a fantacy drama but the fact is undeniable.

We all should remember that first, we are humans and then Christian, Muslim, Hindu or Jew. We all breathe the same air and drink the same water renewed over and over again. If someone from a particular religion hates other religions then he should not use the air and water used by the people of other religions. Imagine about the water that has passed through the bodies of billions of people.

We should remember one thing that there is no bad religion but the people can be good or bad irrespective of their religion. so, with this thought, I'll leave you.

I appreciate you for reading this article. Thanks.
