Most of the people in the don't know that they are suffering from certain psychological disorder, or you say a disease called procrastination. In fact, many people don't even know what this means, and how this habit is not allowing humans to discover their true potential, physically and mentally. If you ask me, I would say, just by bringing awareness among population, especially in young generation, about this disorder, will bring drastic change in the whole world. This disease is everywhere, in every corner of our society. From politics to education. In women, men, in everyone. This is a matter of concern. Hence, it's time to act.
The word procrastination comes from the Latin prefix pro-, meaning "forward," and c-r-a-s-t-i-n-u-s, "of tomorrow." The word means moving or acting slowly to fall behind, and it implies blameworthy delay, especially through laziness or apathy. As explained in Google dictionary, the people with this habit of procrastination, delay, and deny their responsibility towards a task. They actually don't feel bad or regret for not doing what they have to do, while procrastinating. They might regret it later in their life for not doing what should have done. In this way, their life becomes miserable. If you didn't understand what this procrastination is, I'll share a few examples in the below paragraph.
The sound of birds singing woke John from his bed. He was hesitating to get up, but he had to go to school as he had a project submission on that particular day. John didn’t complete his project and, this wasn’t the first time, he hadn’t submitted his project on time.
He got up from his bed; brushed, bathed and ate breakfast. He was sure that this time, his teacher would take this issue to the principal and, he, might even get a few days of detention from school. John entered the classroom and found that everyone submitted their project.
The teacher asked, ‘Submit your project, John.’ Teacher knew that John hadn’t completed his project, but to encourage him, she asked him, ‘Did you have any problem yesterday since you weren’t able to complete the project?’ With a polite tone.
John was startled to see his teacher remained calm even though he hadn’t finished his work. John replied, ’I had a serious headache the other night and I couldn’t complete the work.’
‘See John, everyone in the class had submitted, and you are the only person who did not submit. You should complete your work well in advance, anticipating problems.’ Her voice was still neutral.
‘Sorry teacher, I will complete it as soon as possible.’
‘Are you asking for an extension?’
Hesitatingly, he said, ‘Yes, Madam' his voice trailed off.
‘I have faced the same scenario with you in earlier projects and, you never stick to your commitment.’
‘This time, I will stick to my word and submit the project tomorrow for sure.’
‘Ok, on one condition I will give you an extension.’
‘What is it?’ he asked the teacher in an excited manner.
‘You have to submit the past two project reports along with the present one.’ She gave a pause and again said, ‘Tomorrow!’
‘Tomorrow?’
‘Yes, Tomorrow.’ Her voice was firm.
‘If I had completed my projects on time, I would never have been burdened with a lot of work at the same time.’ John spoke in his mind.
So, this habit is practiced from childhood for some people and fall for this in mid-ages. Imagine, if you don't procrastinate and do all the required work needed to achieve your ambition. You could become rich, if you try. You could become beautiful, if you just try, by taking small steps, making small changes every day in your life. There is only one way for this habit, that is, to keep moving even if it is a slow motion, never mind. And not stopping until you achieve your goal.
To achieve something, first, you should do what is necessary and then do what is possible. Suddenly, you are doing the impossible.
(The above quote by Saint Francis Of Assisi)
