The key to a happy life lies in personal development. Real and lasting satisfaction in life comes from continuing to improve your quality of life. Life is very dynamic. As in nature, everything that does not grow, dies! You will grow old or die. If you don't grow up, you will feel like you are dying. Everyday life offers us opportunities for growth. They are perceived by some as problems and by others as the good opportunities.
So why do people fail in personal growth? Well, there are certain personal barriers to growth that prevent them from actively developing in their life:Three major barriers to personal growth are basically three related behaviors that keep us from moving and confine us. The result is a failure to move on with our lives.
Personal Growth Barrier # 1: Postponing
Delaying unreasonable delays in activities, esp important ones. Logically, you may want a certain result, and you know which course to take, but you are still unmoved. Failure to do so is what keeps you where you are. It is possible that this is what you MUST do, as this will help you to grow in your ability to act and just act. Remember that you are only postponing the activities you value, and to some degree you know you will benefit from it.
Personal Growth Barrier # 2: Impartiality
Every single action is preceded by a decision. Ironically, not making a decision is a decision. Impartiality is like a disease that you must eradicate from your life. Choice is simply the result of fear of failure, and by not making a decision you cannot fail. Be aware that nothing happens in the future and that fear of the worst possible consequences will likely prevent you from making a decision. If you do not make decisions, you will not make them, and you will remain motionless.
Personal Growth Barrier # 3: Luxury Areas or Comfort Zone
Within your comfort zone, everything is known, and you have this sense of confidence that you can deal with it. You’ve done it before, and you feel ‘comfortable’ about it. Stepping out of your comfort zone challenges your beliefs and ideas. And it challenges you to grow as a person. Many of your boundaries are set and governed by what you believe you can or cannot do, whether you like it or not, what you think is right or wrong. You need to keep stretching ‘yourself’ physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually to avoid standing still and being trapped in your comfort zone.
It always strikes me that these common car barriers in boarder testing centers are so 'weak'. They can't even stop the bike, yet they stop sixteen big wheels. The barrier is more psychological than real. So are the barriers to your personal growth.
They can stop you, but they can’t keep you unless you allow them to. Simply acknowledge them and then move on. Personal growth is a choice, and it’s an active process. To ensure a happy and fulfilled life that is filled with joy and appreciation, you have to consistently grow and expand your ‘self’.
