What is a perfume?

A perfume is a mixture of essential fragrant oils,fixatives and solvents.

  • Essential oils ; These are derived from natural aromatic plants. e.g Citral.
  • Fixatives ; These are the substances which are used in perfumes to reduce evaporation rates.
  • solvents ; solvents which are used are alcohol and water in which 98% is ethanol and just 2% is water.Alcohol allows the fragrance to spread along with it, giving the pleasent odour.

Difference between perfume and bodyspray :

  • Perfumes contains more oil as compared to body spray.
  • Body sprays contain more ethanol and water quantity than perfumes.
  • Perfumes contain more scent so these are long lasting as compared to sprays.
  • perfumes are always expensive than body sprays.
  • perfumes worn onto the clothes,whereas body sprays are worn on the skin.
  • Difference between men and women's perfume ;

Difference between men and women's perfumes :

Actually there is no special difference between these two because ingredients are common in all the perfumes.Mostly there are two things on the base of which men and women's perfumes are differed

  • Label itself
  • Ingredients based on notes label on it.
  • Woody,musky,aromatic,strong and leathery smells are usually considered to be masculine perfumes.
  • Floral,fresh,fruity,sweet and ligth scents are mostly considered to  be the feminine perfumes.

Different types of perfumes :

  • Normal perfumes
  • Eau de perfume
  • Eau de toilette
  • Eau de colonge
  • Eau fraiche

Advantages of perfumes ;

  • These help to keep the body unwanted odour at bay so one can smell good throughout the day.
  • Always boost our confidence.
  • Somethimes cure headach due to their therapeutic effects.(though it is not true for all perfumes).

Disadventages of perfumes :

  • Recent researches have confirmed that many of the ingredients in perfumes are neurotoxic as they have poisonous effect on the brain.These can also cause skin allergy,skin irritation and even responsible for skin cancer.
  • Oak moss,rose oil and basil oil contain allergen compounds or sometimes carcinogenic.
  • Their odour inhaling can also cause severe headache.
  • Studies have confirmed that perfumes can increase the sensitivity to UV radiations.
