Features of Over Molding & Insert molding
"Over molding" means the secondary injection molding of the product. The main overmolded parts includes two, one refers to the plastic inside, and one refers to the rubber outside. In tpe overmold manufacturing, the plastic mold is first manufactured, that is, the main hard rubber mold. After it cools naturally, it is put into another mold for injection molding again, so that the two plastic parts are wrapped together in the mold. The adhesive is usually used more on the handle. Among them, the outer soft rubber is commonly used in artificial rubber, TPU, TPR, and other rubber materials, and the inside can be ABS, PC, PP, and so on. The disadvantage of the coated mold is that it is not suitable for injection molding precision two-material and multi-material injection molding products; The plastic injection overmolding process cycle is relatively long, and the production efficiency is lower than that of the two-color mold. This extended cycle time of overmolds can lead to increased operational costs and longer lead times for product delivery. As a result, manufacturers may need to carefully assess their project timelines and budget constraints when considering cable overmolding as a production method.
