The UGC has warned that the PhD degree purportedly offered online is invalid, and students and the public should not be fooled by fake advertisements.
In this regard, the All India Council for Technical Education (UGC), which controls higher education institutions, has published advertisements in newspapers. It states:
Standards should be maintained in awarding PhD degrees to students. For this UGC Rules, 2016 should be followed properly. However, some EdTech Companies are offering online PhD courses in collaboration with international educational institutions. However, these are invalid. The public and students should be aware of this. Indian institutions of higher learning should offer PhD courses and degrees in accordance with UGC norms.
UGC said.
Earlier PhD. The UGC has released a draft report on the new qualifications for the course, instead of doing a master, directly to a PhD. Introduce 4-year undergraduate courses for admission to PhD. The UGC has also decided to make the entrance exam mandatory for admission to the course and issued a notification. It also introduced some other features.
* Every degree awarding autonomous college and other colleges have a PhD. Courses can be offered.
* Those who have completed 4 years of Bachelor's degree and one year / two semesters of Master's degree are eligible for a PhD. Apply for the course. However, they should have secured 55 per cent marks.
* Those who have completed a Bachelor's degree and completed a Master's course of 2 years/ 4 semesters and a PhD. Apply for the course. They should also have secured 55 per cent marks.
* Graduates of 4 Years / 8 Semesters with Research and PhD. Apply for the course. They should also have secured 55 per cent marks. They should have at least a 7.5 CGPA out of 10.
* In this there is a relaxation of 5 per cent for SC, ST, OBC and creamy layer categories, differently abled and economically backward categories. That means candidates belonging to the above category should have secured 50 per cent marks.
After completing 4 years of undergraduate studies, I PhD. 0.5 CGPA relaxation is available for SC, ST, OBC and Creamy Layer category candidates, differently abled and economically backward students. That means the above should have at least a 7.0 CGPA out of 10.
PhD. Entrance test for the course
* PhD through National Eligibility Test (NET) or National Entrance Test for all Universities or Entrance Test conducted by the Universities themselves. Scholars should be admitted.
* Out of which 60 per cent of vacancies will be filled through the NET / JRF entrance exam and 40 per cent of vacancies will be filled through university exams.
* PhD. Universities and colleges which are allowed to conduct courses can choose the scholars according to the number of seats available to them.
* With research supervisors, education, research facilities, laboratory, library and other facilities for PhD. Places of study will be decided.
* Entrance test questions will be based on Research/ Reasoning/ Comprehension. At least 50 per cent marks are required to pass this exam. SC/ST/OBC non-creamy layer category and differently abled have a 5% exemption.
It is noteworthy that UGC has informed this.
