A few days ago a tragic incident occured under Mumbai's Wadala Police Station. The story goes that a 26 year old boy named Vijay singh was arrested by the police patrol team after a minor dispute. They took him to a lock up and beat him so much that he had a heart attack. The boy asked for water to drink, but shameless police instead of giving him water beat him up even more. But when he collapsed, the Police took him to Sion Hospital where doctors declared him dead. According to statistic of the last few years 442 people were killed in police custody in India and in among those cases 70 cases were only in Maharashtra. Can you imagine what would have the mother felt after losing her young son? These five policemen may be punished but her son will not return. But I can say today with the claim that in a few days all will be forgotten and the case will continue for years and all these accused will be acquitted. Today I am not talking about their punishment. My motive of writing this post is to alert you that this might happen to your life too.
According to the guidelines issued by Hon. supreme Court of India after arresting any person it is mandatory to conduct medical check up, inform his family and present him before the Megistrate as soon as possible. But in 90% of the cases police do not follow such guidelines. They only follow these guidelines in high profile cases. The common man has to suffer various kinds of torture. My purpose in writing this post is to share with you that the Hon. Supreme Court has given strict instructions that CCTV is mandatory in all police stations but no government or police department takes it seriously. Just as the camera mounted on a police van in other countries it should also be implemented strictly in our country so that transparency is maintained. And even in detention one should be kept under CCTV surveillance so that justice can be done with the common man especially with the women. The every next day we get to hear the news that a woman went to the police station to lodge her complaint and she bacame the victim of misconduct. If all the police station and police vans have CCTV installed then I am sure that the common man can be saved from getting any unconstitutional behaviour. i request all of you, especially who are working for NGO's amd HUMAN RIGHTS to make it a movement so that the poor, helpless and backward people can truly get justice. I also pray to the Hon. Supreme Court through this post that appropriate action can be taken in this regard as soon as possible. Please spread this post like a movement so that everyone can get justice. I do not intend to make money or fame through this post, I just want to draw attention to this serious issue. This is just a small attempt to bring about a change.
I extend my condolences to the families of all the people who have lost their relatives or loved ones because of the brutality of the policemen. I can not lessen their suffering but I want to help them by making people aware of this.
