New Zealand: A "very unusual find" of a baby ghost shark was discovered off the coast of South Island.

Infant ghost shark has been determined by scientists off the east coast of New Zealand’s South Island.

 Scientists from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research said the deep water shark needed to have been born as its belly changed into a complete egg yolk.

Dr Brit Finucci, a member of the group, stated of the very rare find: "It’s quite wonderful. Most deep-water ghost sharks are recognized grownup specimens; neonates are infrequently stated, so we know little or nothing about them.
 
She told "Deep water species are normally tough to find and prefer ghost sharks mainly because they tend to be quite cryptic."
 So we just don’t see them very frequently.
 Young ghost sharks can also alternate their traits once they turn out to be adults.
 She stated, Juveniles can live in unique habitats they can have one-of-a-kind diets, they can even appear very one-of-a-kind compared to adults."
 Coming through the juvenile stage allows us to better understand the biology and ecology of the species.
 Dr Finucci also said research would be achieved on the toddler shark species.
 She stated, "We’ll take a little tissue sample and random genetics."
 Then we’ll do a bunch of morphometrics or frame measurements as well, so one can additionally assist us determine what species we’re searching for.
 
 Identification:
