Well, I’m a 14-year-old girl, and in my old room, the door used to lock. It was good for when my brother or cousins wanted something in it, but couldn’t, because it was mine, and they can’t have it, or for privacy when I was getting changed, I was sad because of grief because around the time I lost both a cat and a dog in the space of a month and a half, or just wanted to be alone listening to music and reading. But I would often get angry at my two younger brothers, my stepdad, or my mum etc. and I would slam the door and lock it. The lock wasn’t exactly the best, easily unlocked with a fork or even a stick, from the outside, but still, it locked. It was the only room in the house with a lock. After a while, my stepdad got sick of the angry slam and lock routine. So, he took the lock out, and I was angry, but with no room to lock myself in, I went to cool down outside with my dog. One angry screaming match with nobody later, I was calmed down enough to go back inside. Walking in, I ignored everybody, and walked into my room, closed the door, went to lock it, and I suddenly felt a sense of insecurity. No way to keep unwanted people out, no more quiet reading times. It was odd. I didn’t like it, and to this day, I still hate that feeling. I have since moved into a rented trailer on our lawn, since my third brother was born, and we needed an extra bedroom, and it has a non-removable lock, and I feel much better. So, my answer is yes, yes you should, or at least have a knock-wait for ‘come in’-and THEN come in system.so I share my story with my friends one of them replied I agree to some extent. I’m 16 and I’ve never had a lock on my bedroom. I did have a lock on my washroom door but my mother took it apart. I think it’s good to have privacy BUT I can not stress this enough, make sure your child is mentally stable. If you allow them to lock their door when they are having self harm urges and suicidal tendencies, it won’t end well. That’s my my mother took apart the lock. (Trigger warning, I had a suicide attempt in my washroom). If they are stable, then yes. If not, no. also Abdullah replied I agree, once my sister close the door to change her clothes but forgot to lock her door but then my dad just came barging in without a knock and my sister yells at him. His answer: “ This is my house and I can do whatever I want!” That was the worse answer I heard from him in my life. When she locks her door, he yells at her for locking the door for no reason and when she says to prevent another incident like the previous time, his said: “No one should lock their doors even if changing or whatsoever. My house, my rule!” It was very bad that we had a family meeting for the first time in years to address this problem.
