This space is intended to give a much-needed voice to the inhabitants of Jammu & Kashmir. Their history, culture, languages, ethnic and religious diversity gets muddled due to various well known narratives. I hope we can all come forward and make this space a true representative of what makes us unique in this beautiful world.
Its a herculean task to keep this space free of hate, bigotry and harassment but i have decided to take this risk. Initially i was going to make a space of AJ&K but then it dawned to me without whole J&K it would be meaningless. So i need help of my brothers from all parts of J&K. I hope there won’t be let down and we all adhere to Quora’s BNBR policy.

There is not any officially adopted kind of dress in G-baltistan. Both men and women generally wear Shalwae and Kamiz, western attires are also popular among youngsters.
However, the cultural dresses varies.
Shina, Wakhis , khowar and Brushu people wear similar cultural dresses. Their men wear a long gown with long sleeves. Chitrali cap which is called Pakhui by them is worn and a plume is put in it. This cap is said to be one of the legacies Macedonian invasion in this region, while other believe that it was taken by Macedonians from Asia.(Cultural dress of Shina, Chitral, Hunza etc)
Women dress
The difference between chitrali cap/Pashtun Pakul and the cape worn in GB is that the former has a hard rim while the later is made with soft one. It is also the official cap of NLI regiment and Chitral scouts of Pakistani Army.
Women wear hat similar to that of most of central Asians.
Balti men wear similar gown but with short sleeves. Though Broqpi nathing (cap of highlanders, referring to Pakul) is also popular, but Balti caps are different. The color of men’s cap is white, while woman wear black caps with green rims. Shawls made of wool are worn, similar were our shoes. These clothing seemed to be worn for survival than for luxury. Jewellery worn by balti women are mainly made of silver and embedded with turquoise, rubies etc; reminiscent of Kashmiri and ladakhi jewellery. This boy is wearing swastika sign, which we call Yulstrung;brings safety for and country. I have seen these signs even in mosques.
