Following the release of the video, Chief Minister Mr N Singh informed the public that strict actions, including the potential of capital penalty, would be implemented against all perpetrators of this horrific act. Several police units were quickly formed to investigate the crime and guarantee that justice was served.
"My heart goes out to the two women who were subjected to a deeply disrespectful and inhuman act," Mr Singh said on Thursday in a tweet. He stated that an extensive inquiry was underway and that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring justice for the victims.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the event, which occurred against the backdrop of ongoing ethnic hostilities in the region. PM Narendra Modi called the assault "shameful" and threatened strong punishment in his first comments on the crisis, which has claimed at least 80 lives so far.
