Pithecellobium dulce (Manila tamarind or Madras thorn) is a species of flowering plant in the pea family, Fabaceae, that is indigenous to the Pacific Coast and nearby highlands of Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. It is also known as Manila tamarind, Madras thorn, monkeypod tree, or camachile.

The 'Revised handbook to the flora of Ceylon' (1980), edited by M.D. Dassanayake, claims that the seeds are consumed (locally?). This information is absent from the original 'Flora of Ceylon' from 1894.

Several portions of the tree were utilised by the Huastec people of northern Veracruz and San Luis Potos, Mexico, to treat cancer, toothaches, and gum conditions.
The leaves are said to be used to treat bile[15], prevent abortions/miscarriages, as well as to cause abortions. They are also said to be used to cause miscarriage.
Fruit pulp is used for hemoptysis and is allegedly astringent and hemostatic.
The ground seed has occasionally been used traditionally to treat ulcers.
