Make Your Life Better by Saying Thank You in These 5 Situations

“Thank you” is one of the most revered and infrequent expressions in the world. It fits almost any situation and is a better answer than most things we say. Let’s add 7 common situations where we say all sorts of things, but we should say “Thank you” instead.
1. Say “Thank you” when you receive a compliment.
We often spoil praise by putting down a statement or acting too humbly. Inwardly, you may think that this prevents you from becoming proud or arrogant.

The problem is that you disrespect someone good enough to say something by diverting the compliment from a real compliment. Simply saying “Thank you” fully acknowledges the person who made the compliment and allows you to enjoy the moment.

Example: "Your dress looks great."

Instead of saying: “Wow, this is an ancient thing. I've had it for years. ”
Try this: “Thank you. I'm glad you like it. ”
2. Say "Thank you" if you are late.
Late arrival is worse. It's stressful for someone who runs late and doesn't respect the waiter.

It may seem strange to thank someone for dealing with your difficulties, but that is the right answer. Many people stumble at the door and say, "I'm sorry I'm late."

The problem is that this response creates a situation for you. Sorry, I was late. Saying “Thank you” turns the tables and acknowledges the sacrifices made by someone else by waiting. Thanks for waiting.

Example: You walk in the door 14 minutes later.

Instead of saying: “I'm so sorry I was late. Traffic was crazy there. ”
Try to say: “Thank you for your patience.”

3. Say “Thank you” when you comfort someone.
If someone comes to you with bad news, it can be difficult. You want to be a good friend, but most people don't know what to say. I know I've felt that way before.

Most of the time, we think it's a good idea to add a silver lining to the problem. “However, at least you have….”

We fail to realize that it doesn't matter if you don't know what to say. All you really need is to be there and thank them for trusting you.

Example: A co-worker's mother passed away recently.

Instead of saying: “You have at least some good memories.”
Try this: “Thank you for sharing that with me. I know this is a difficult time for you. ”

4. Say “Thank you” for a meaningful reply.
The answer may be beneficial, but we rarely see it that way. Whether it’s a negative performance review from your manager or an email from unhappy customers, a common response is to find protection. That's a shame because the correct answer is to say, "Thank you," and use the information to improve.

Example: “This job is not enough. I thought you would do better. ”

Instead of saying: “You don't understand. Here is what really happened. ”
Try to say: “Thank you for the high expectations I have.”

5. Say “Thank you” when you receive undue criticism.
Sometimes criticism is futile. It is vengeful and cruel. I’ve written about dealing with haters before, but one of the best ways is to say thank you and move on.

When you thank someone for criticizing you, it immediately diminishes the power of their statements. If it’s not a big deal for you, it won’t grow into a big issue.

Example: "This may be good advice for beginners, but anyone who knows what they are doing will find this useless."

Instead of saying: “Yes, obviously, I am writing to beginners. This may surprise you, but not everything is written thinking about you. ”
Try this: “Thank you for sharing your opinion. I will try to improve in the future. ”
