Mark Hayden has written an outstanding book that has become a bestseller and has won both the Whitbread Book of the Year and the Whitbread Novel Awards. As Mark Hayden himself created the book, "Who on earth would want to read about a disabled fifteen-year-old boy?" Where is it said? Little did he know that the fifteen-year-old disabled boy had made his book stand out, winning awards and becoming a bestseller. Title of book "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and the Boy Is Christopher".
Christopher is an autistic-savant. He can name all the countries of the world and their capitals. He has photographic memory and talent in mathematics and science. Despite his extraordinary intelligence he could not imagine, could not understand the figures of speech and engaged in jokes. Most people, even where he is touched, do not like it. Autistic-savant individuals exhibit common symptoms to those with autism and savant syndrome. Autism is a disorder that is affecting more and more people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This condition mainly involves weaknesses in socialization, imagination and communication. Sawant Syndrome is characterized by very little general intelligence, but an unusually narrow mind, usually in the fields of mathematics, music, art and memory.
Christopher's parents break up in the story. Her mother decided to leave Christopher and her father because she could not bear the demands of raising an autistic child. Parents caring for special children with autism may have higher stress levels than most parents. The main reason for this is that their children have special demands, unusual behaviors and different abilities than other children of the same age. These children have a lot of difficulty communicating and therefore may have unusual reactions. An example of this is when an autistic child cries and beats himself up for no apparent reason. Most likely, something is bothering him, but he does not know how it is. Some autistic children with sensory integration problems may be hypersensitive or hyposensitive to touch, stress, movement and sound. They show behaviors that are sometimes difficult to understand, such as avoiding certain foods and drinks, pinching or hitting, and often shaking and screaming. Some of them are strictly following certain routines and may be afraid of new places or people. Adjusting to the needs of these children and dealing with their behavior is not so easy and therefore, it creates a lot of stress.
Autism is a disorder that is affecting more and more children. They thrive on security and avoid people who see it as a threat to their safety. However, many aspects, conditions and demands of the society make them insecure and forcing them to deal with it makes them anxious for a long time. Unknowingly and unknowingly, children with autism are constantly worrying about something new or something beyond their comprehension. As in the book, when Christopher had to move out of a town he knew, he was physically ill and frightened. Unlike most children, people with autism do not adapt easily to new environments or conditions. The process of learning to understand and accept what they already do not know can lead to a high level of anxiety.
Although dealing with and coping with autistic children may seem like a daunting task, much has already been studied and published about proper management that can reduce the anxiety not only of children but also of their parents. Dad can also reduce stress. Some techniques, such as cognitive behavior modification, behavior modification, and environmental modification, have been shown to be effective in altering abusive behavior and improving the learning skills of children with autism. Some people with problems other than autism may need additional treatment as advised by a doctor. Children with autism who inadvertently engage in self-defense behaviors due to dissatisfaction with manic depression may need more treatment than previously described. In this situation it is advisable to consult a psychiatrist and other medications may be prescribed.
Christopher's story ends with Christopher being able to overcome the challenges that most worry him and his mother decides to come back to look after him. Like this fictional novel, it can also be found in real life in the context of dealing with the tension and anxiety between families who have to deal with the situation. Stress and anxiety in parents and autistic children can be relieved with proper management, medication or treatment.
