According to a report, more than 1 million people die from heart disease every year, and that number is expected to rise to 2 million by 2020 if no serious steps are taken. The study also found that the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases like coronary heart disease has been increasing over the past two decades. This article will look into some of the latest developments associated with cardiovascular diseases. Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death for both males and females worldwide. It is estimated that about half of all deaths due to cardiovascular diseases are in low and middle-income countries, compared to high-income countries. Heart disease is one of the leading causes of premature death globally, and most new cases of cardiovascular diseases are seen among middle-aged persons. Coronary heart disease (CVD) is a condition characterized by the narrowing or blockage of arteries leading to coronary artery disease (CAD). There are three types of diabetes in humans. They are classified as follows: type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent), type 2 (insulin-independent), and gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is detected during pregnancy and in a baby whose mother has diabetes. Infant screening is not as reliable as adult screening because of changes in body composition during pregnancy and lactation. Most mothers who get pregnant with such pregnancies are at increased risk of being diagnosed with diabetes because insulin resistance is present throughout pregnancy. Studies have found that maternal fasting plasma glucose levels are associated with fetal metabolic syndrome and poor neonatal outcomes. Maternal dietary intake of sugar, protein, starch, fat, and sodium is associated with the same effects. For instance, an analysis of data from 11 studies found that having a diet with a higher proportion of carbohydrates, added sugars, fat, and sodium was associated with a higher infant risk. Lack of sleep is said to contribute to several cardiovascular diseases. Insufficient sleep that lasts less than six hours on average per night affects nearly 40 million American adults. It is also known as short-term duration sleep deficiency, which increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and other lifestyle-related conditions. Short-term sleep deprivation results in decreased performance in academic, occupational, social, family, and economic spheres. Sleep loss contributes to 30% to 35% of all hospital admissions, and approximately 75% of patients who are admitted to ED. There is evidence that short sleep disrupts platelet reaction to clot and decreases function. An increase in endothelial nitric oxide production induces platelet aggregation, resulting in thrombocytopenia. Increased platelet reactivity increases the risk for cardiovascular events and may aggravate inflammation. Long periods of sleep deprivation have been found to lower risk factors for cardiovascular disease by lowering blood sugar levels, reducing inflammation, lowering triglyceride levels, improving endothelial function, and reducing blood viscosity. Chronic sleep restriction may also affect mental health. Reduced quality of sleep, particularly early morning awakening, is strongly related to depressive symptoms. Other negative impacts include stress, anxiety, and depression. Researchers are working on ways to prevent and treat certain cancer types and types of cancers. One research is looking at using stem cells to help regulate tumor growth. Stem cells are immature cells that develop when embryonic stem cells become mature, then they can differentiate into various kinds of cells and have the ability to repair damaged tissues once these cells become defective. Several types of cancer stem cells exist, but the focus will soon be on cancer stem cells. These cells provide the cell-to-cell communication necessary for normal cell division, and they can grow abnormally or change their shape.
