Lab on Capacitors

Abstract:

This experiment is conducted in order to obtain the value of capacitance of various capacitors used in the lab. After making the circuit, the values for the voltages for every capacitor are noted. In this way, enough calculations are made to get the end results.

In order to determine the value of each capacitance, the value of the voltages calculated and series and parallel concepts of capacitors are used. In this way, final results are obtained. After completing this experiment, we come to know about the importance and role of capacitors in the electric circuits that are using in our daily life. Capacitors are vital for the electric circuits.

Experimental Data:

With the each step of the procedure, following readings are noted as the experimental data.

(c) Vf = 2.344 V

Vf (TH) = 2.381 V

 (d) Vf = 5.462 V

Vf (TH) = 2.381 V

(e) Vf2 = 3.252 V

Vf3 = 4.327 V

(f) 3.46 V

C1 = 2.47 μF

2b) C = 0.01 μF

2c) Standard capacitance = 0.02 μF

2d) V2 = 3.099 V

C1 = 0.0326 μF

Capacitance of co-axial cable = 2.74 μF

C15 = 2.83 μF

Results:

The calculated and measured values are collected as the final results given as under.

(c) Vf (TH) = (C1/C1 + C2)V = 2.381 V

Where C1 and C2 are capacitances of two capacitors and V is the source voltage.

(d) Vf = 2.33Vf1 = 2.33×2.381 = 5.547 V

Where Vf1 is voltage measured in (c).

2d) 2.74 = C15/C1 + 0.02

C15 = 2.74C1 + 2.74

C15 = 2.74×0.0326 + 2.74

C15 = 0.089 + 2.74

C15 = 2.83 μF

Where C15 is the capacitance of unknown capacitor and C1 is the capacitance of first capacitor.

Discussion:

In calculating the voltages, the rule of voltage division using the reference voltage is applied. In this way, by using the parallel and series concepts applied on the capacitors, voltages are calculated. In the end, the required results in the form of various capacitances are calculated. This was the requirement in the experiment to use the useful concepts of electrical circuits in order to get the desired results.

Conclusion:

The most important results that were the requirements of this experiment were the measurement of various capacitances. These are measured after calculating the voltages. In this way, for each combination, capacitances are calculated. By calculating these capacitances, properties of a certain electrical circuit can be altered by inserting one of these calculated capacitances. After measuring the various capacitances, we reached to our main objective or assumption made at the start of the experiment.
