It's normal to feel down once in a while, it is common to feel that way in day to day life stress. But if you are sad most of the time and it affects your daily life then it can be possible that you are suffering from clinical depression.

Most of the people ignore their condition and mistaken it with the daily stress of life and think that it's not a big deal and everything will be fine. This type of thought is the first step to major depression in a person. Depression is a mental condition that needed to be cured as soon as possible. It can be treated with medicine, talking to the therapist and changes to your lifestyle.

Most of the patients who suffer from depression say that they feel lonely, helpless, and like they have no soul in their bodies. Loneliness some time important to clear the mind when you are confused, but it can be dangerous when you feel lonely even in a room full of people. Maybe that's the fearful thought one can have.

According to India Today, A report released from the World Health Organisation (WHO) says that depression will be the single biggest cause of ill health in the world by 2030, and India is the most depressed country in the world.

"6.5% of the Indian population suffers from some form of serious mental disorder. It shows mental health is emerging as a widespread disease," said Clinical Psychologist of Colombia Asia hospital, Doctor  Sweta Sharma.

According to a survey, Women are twice as likely to develop a common mental disorder, when compared to men. Research has also shown that 20% of Indian mothers are likely to be affected by postpartum depression.

Depression can highly affect the working capacity of a person, according to further research by WHO, economic loss in India due to mental health condition will amount to an estimated $1.3 trillion between 2012 and 2030.

Depression can be triggered by stressors like losing a job, a serious illness, the loss of a loved one, or substance used. Other times a recurrence can happen because the medication you were taking isn't the best one for you, or because it's time to try a new therapy.

 SYMPTOMS 

Depression can manifest in a different way for different people such as

  • Some people may sleep too much, while others might have difficulty sleeping.
  • Irritability.
  • Trouble concentrating or making a decision.
  • Loss of interest.
  • Feeling restless or agitated.
  • the feeling of guilt or hopelessness.  
  • Thoughts of death or suicide etc.

Treatments

  • Take the help of a Professional Therapist and use medication that prescribes continuously.
  • Practice self-care can help with preventing depression symptoms such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, and yoga.
  • Find support, you do not have to do this alone. Depression is an illness and isn't something you can fight alone with willpower. Talk to your loved one, Doctor about your feeling, share your thoughts with them let them know how you feel
