The craze of KGF 2 amongst the audience has been burgeoning ever since the trailer has been launched. Moreover, the fandom of Rocking star ignited excitement amongst the audience like few films in Indian cinema before it have been, they may be from any language. It was widely reported that KGF Chapter 2 would likely take an earth-shattering opening in every territory across the globe where it opens. Well, it has done just that, first and foremost breaking the record for the biggest opening ever in the Hindi belt, and then registering the third-highest opening of all time pan-India.
On the other hand, Vijay and Pooja starred Beast, directed by Nelson is still barely pulling itself along in Tamil Nadu, the curtains have fallen on it in every other territory, and with the monstrous status that KGF 2 has assumed everywhere else, no surprises for guessing that Beast will soon be crushed in its home state as well. There's no two ways to look at it – Beast is headed to be an epic disaster.
In fact, the effects are already showing with theaters across the state of Tamil Nadu replacing shows of the Vijay starred, something that would've been thought inconceivable at least in Tamil Nadu prior to both films clashing at the box office. It makes perfect business sense though since after the replacement of shows, KGF2 is running houseful since 3 a.m. while several of Beast's shows aren't even running to quarter capacity for its prime-time shows in the evening.
Following that on April 15, ‘Beast’ made a box office collection of reportedly Rs. 30 crores, making the film to earn a gross of Rs 127 crore in three days. According to reports, the film on day 1 was worshiped by fans, but soon lost traction after the pan-Indian film ‘K.G.F: Chapter 2’ was released on April 14. Reports suggest that theaters are not running house full for ‘Beast’ and the tickets are available for afternoon shows even at the last minute, whereas ‘K.G.F: Chapter 2’ screens are full.
With the release of ‘K.G.F 2’, ‘Beast’ is facing a lazy run in theaters. It is also expected that ‘Beast’ will pick up its earnings over the weekend. Noting that the film was released mid-week on a Wednesday, the film might get a gross of Rs. 50 crore over Saturday and Sunday shows. However, though ‘Beast’ has been officially announced as a blockbuster hit, the film is running successfully in Tamil Nadu and ‘Beast’ Hindi has totally made an earning of Rs. 15 lakh only in three days.
These are the only three films to cross Rs. 100 crores opening day in India, and coincidentally are all within Rs. 4 crores of each other in 130s. Recently we had two films trying to take the record, but both fell slightly short. Though needs to be said that, K.G.F 2 would have been at the top comfortably if not for losing business in Tamil Nadu due to competition from Beast, which itself was the new entrant in the list, currently standing at number 9.
