Karnataka on Wednesday registered a jump in daily infections, with the state seeing 20,505 new cases of Covid-19 as compared to 14,366 fresh infections on Tuesday. Of the new cases, 8,850 were from Bengaluru Urban, followed by 1,209 cases from and 1,060 cases from 1,060.
As many as 81 deaths were noted as well on Wednesday, taking the state-wide total tally to 38,44,338 and death toll to 39,137. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 12.55 per cent, the case fatality rate was 0.39 per cent.
Every year 78,381 new cases of cancers are being diagnosed, as per population-based cancer registries in Karnataka, the state health department said. Among these, 34,742 cases are reported in males and 43,639 cases in females. The cancer prevalence in the state in the year 2020 is 2,11,630.
In males, the leading sites for cancer are lung (10.1%) stomach (6.9%), and prostate (6.4%) and in females, it is breast (27.9%), cervix (12%), and ovary 6.4%

Karnataka Home Minister Jnanendra and Bengaluru police chief Kamal Pant took to Twitter to congratulate Constable Kallur for stepping in with a helping hand when an ambulance carrying a brain tumor patient suffered a flat tire.
Pant said that the Constable helped the ambulance driver change the tire and the patient was able to reach the hospital in the nick of time. "His presence of mind and devotion to duty is praiseworthy. Well done!" wrote the police chief on Twitter. The Minister too appreciated the police constable's action.
