The number of displaced people in Gaza has already exceeded one million, according to the United Nations. Among them, more than 527 thousand 500 people have reached 147 shelters managed by the United Nations.
Israel imposed a total blockade on the Gaza Strip after the conflict between Hamas and Israel began on October 7. In this situation, fuel, water and other supplies are stopped there. ASEAN and GCC leaders strongly condemn the killing of civilians in Gaza
ASEAN and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) leaders have strongly condemned the killing of civilians in Gaza by Israel's attack. Along with this, these two alliances called for an immediate stop to this attack.
According to a report in the Straits Times, the leaders of the two alliances said this in a joint statement at the ASEAN-GCC summit in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia on Friday (October 20). Besides, they called for the speedy and unconditional release of civilians held by Hamas.
Expressing concern over the ongoing situation in the Middle East, the leaders of the two organizations called on all concerned to ensure the necessary humanitarian assistance, relief supplies and other essential services in Gaza.
They also called for the restoration of electricity and water supplies to Gaza, and for the entry of fuel, medicine and food aid.
ASEAN and the GCC said in a joint statement, "Calling on both parties to the conflict in the Middle East to protect civilians in the ongoing war, not to target them, and to abide by the principles and provisions of international humanitarian law, especially the Geneva Conventions."
Besides, the leaders of these two alliances urged everyone to work for a peaceful solution to this ongoing conflict.
