January 3, 2020: Iran's top commander Qasim Sulemani is killed in a US airstrike. The Pentagon said that President Trump ordered it after the attack on the US embassy in Baghdad. January 7, 2020: Hussain Salami, leader of the Revolutionary Guard, says Iran will "avenge" it.
January 8, 2020: Iran launches more than a dozen ballistic missiles at least two military bases in Iraq where the US military and its allied forces are stationed. Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif described the attack on US forces as a step in self-defense and said that with this, the revenge of the killing of Kasim Sulemani who was killed in the US airstrike is complete.
