Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson and Ajit Agarcar are set to join Delhi Capitals' coaching staff before the start of Indian Premier League 2022. Watson and Agarcar will be working under head coach, Ricky Ponding.
As per ESPN`, Ajit Agarcar will join his former franchise as its assistant coach. A full-time cricket expert now, Agarcar played for DC from 2011 to 2013. He was part of Kolkata Knight Riders from 2008 to 2010.
Former India pacer Ajit Agarcar is also tipped to join Delhi Capitals as an assistant coach ahead of Indian Premier League 2022. Ajit Agarcar will join the franchise after completing his commentating duties in the home series against Sri Lanka starting February 24. The Indian Premier League 2022 is expected to begin in the last week of March.
Agarcar has never coached an Indian Premier League side and will be making his coaching debut in the 15th edition of the season. India's 3rd-highest wicket-taker in One Day Internationals, Ajit Agarcar, scalped 288 wickets in 191 matches. He also played 26 Test matches. A member of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning squad, Agit Agarcar played 4 T20Is. He retired from professional cricket in 2013.
Shane Watson has a rich experience of winning the Indian Premier League title as a player with two teams – Rajasthan Royals (2008) and Chennai Super Kings (2018). Shane Watson amassed, 1490 runs in 140 Indian Premier League games averaging 22.57 and took 153 scalps averaging 24.81.
In Indian Premier League 2020, Shane Watson scored 299 runs from 11 matches, averaging 29.9 at a strike rate of 122. The Australian all-rounder has since announced his retirement from all forms of the game after the conclusion of Indian Premier League 2020.
Shane Watson played from 2008 to 2015 for Rajasthan Royals, before playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2016 and 2017. He was eventually signed by Chennai Super Kings (2018-2020). Shane Watson played 59 Tests, 190 One Day Internationals and 58 T20Is for Australia before retiring in 2016 from international cricket after debuting in 2002.
The 44-year-old pacer, has played 26 Tests, 191 One Day Internationals and four T20Is for India, taking an aggregate of 349 wickets. Indian Pacer, joining Delhi Capitals also ends speculation that he may join the Indian team as a bowling consultant.
Indian Pacer, who picked up 288 wickets in 191 One Day Internationals and 58 in 26 Tests for India, also led Mumbai for the first time in the Randi Trophy and helped them win the title in 2012-13. Delhi’s assignment will be his first time in any coaching role.
In Indian Premier League, the pacer played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) from 2011 to 2013. He had also played for Kolkata Knight Riders between 2008 and 2010. In all, he has played 62 T20 matches and picked up 47 wickets.
Delhi Capitals have been among the most consistent and successful teams in the last few seasons of the Indian Premier League. They have been in the playoffs in the last three years, including making the final in 2020 when they lost to Mumbai Indians.
Agarcar and Watson are set to join DC’s leadership group, comprising Ponding, captain Pant batting coach Praveen and bowling coach James Hopes. The franchise may soon announce a fielding coach as well.
