How to have a Lasting Beauty?

It is not easy in today's world to feel truly good. Women are attacked everywhere we look at pictures and words that tell us we are imperfect creatures. Millions of dollars were made by various companies and advertisers telling us that WE CAN achieve perfection by purchasing a “beauty” product; Eating or NOT Eating certain foods, exercising with this or that material, hiding or revealing certain body parts…, does not end.

Unfortunately, many women spend every dollar on cosmetic products. Our cabinets/spaces are occupied and loaded with cosmetics, exercise videos, and exercise machines. With one 'perfect' body image after another. We work so hard and end up paying exorbitant prices to afford liposuction, chemical procedures, and extensions for our hair to achieve the most “flattering” styles.

Should we continue to chase after unattainable beauty?

Are we sacrificing our Natural Beauty?

Don't get me wrong I prefer to shave my legs, apply nail polish, lipstick, and makeup and I don't wear socks and sandals, when I know I'm not going to a grocery store, etc.

But I would like to think that if one day I wake up and cannot wear the cosmetics? What IF I let my hair relax, or lose those 5 extra lbs.? Will I still be a good wife and a unique, loving person?

This is what worries me as I have a daughter. I look forward to her future and am apprehensive about the day when she will come home crying (as do many children) because someone at the school told her she was bad. As we all know, children are children, and often repeat what they hear and read at home.

I would love to be able to tell her in my loving words and explain to her with my life examples, that It took me years of practice and hesitation to finally realize that there is no place one can find other than what can only come from within.

I want her to see that she is beautiful; not because of what she wears or applies on her face, body, or hair, or because she is conscious about her weight. The true beauty is, to love one's self no matter what shape, size, financial status, or education the person has. I hope that as she grows up in a world that seems to be full of anxiety, she shines with contentment, and peace within herself!

I want my daughter to grow up with the knowledge that natural beauty is what comes from within and shines through the acts of kindness, love respect, and consideration that one gives to others, the love and self-respect one gets. The joy one feels by spending time with family and friends, and the sacrifices one makes for others.

I want my daughter to understand, that people see others as beautiful aesthetically, whereas, compassion for oneself and others is the kind of beauty that inflames the heart and enchants the soul! This is a lasting and captivating Beauty! So when she looks at herself in the mirror, she radiates confidence, and gratitude to realize that she is BEAUTIFUL.
