Indian's celebrate as Kamalpreet Kaur enters final of discus throw in Tokyo Olympics. Kamalpreet Kaur brings a joyous moment for all Indians as she reaches the final discussion throw. Also, she holds the record for the first Indian discus thrower to breach the 65m barrier.
This is probably one of the best performances so far in track and field. Though this is just a qualifying round, she has marked her presence.
The slow start.
Kamalpreet Kaur got an abysmal start. Kamalpreet only manages to score 60.29m score in her first attempt. She was pretty much disappointed with this effort. But soon, things started changing on the second attempt. She delivered a much more composed throw in the second attempt. Kamalpreet just missed the automatic qualifier by a narrow margin. The target to reach directly to finals is 64 meters.
Bounce back.
Having scored 63.94 in her second attempt, kamalpreet was all set to deliver her final trial. She could have qualified directly on the second attempt only. But that was a narrow miss. Kamalpreet looked much more determined for her final attempt.
The 25 years old finally sent the discussion away with all her fierce attitude to the distance of 64 meters. That finally leads her to be qualified automatically to the next round.
She was among the only two competitors who qualified for the next round automatically. The other was an American named Valarie Allman, who top-scored with 66.47 meters discuss throw.
After the third round, she was much more relaxed, knowing she qualified for the finals. The Indian coach and the support staff were also delighted with kamalpreet Kaur's vibrant performance.
Applauds from all over India.
Kamalpreet started getting applauds and wishes from all over India. Many celebrities also tweeted for her, congratulating them for her success. Among them was Virender Sehwag, who tweeted "Kamal Kar Diya aapne." He also congratulated her and wished her luck for the finals. Kamalpreet Kaur broke the national record twice. And probably that's why there are a lot of expectations from her. Hope she will deliver her best in finals. The final will be held on 2nd August.
Meanwhile, Atanu das, after giving a tight fight in his previous round, have been knocked out of the tournament along with Amit Panghal. It wasn't delightful. Both of them were really disappointed.
P. V. Sindhu meanwhile reached the semifinals of the women's singles event at the Tokyo Olympics.
Talking about the discus throw event, Seema Antil-Puniya was unable to qualify for the finals. She also was a part of the qualifier round. But sadly, she could not make it to the finals. Seema until-Duniya competing in her fourth Olympics failed to qualify as she just scored 60.57 meters. Seema did qualify for the Olympics with a score of 63.72 meters discuss throw in nationals held at Patiala India last month.
Kamalpreet Kaur has a record of personal best 66.59 meters. She has become the 11th Indian and the second woman discus thrower to qualify for an Olympic event in discuss throwing. All the best for her future events.
