Justice legend Kapil Dev feels the day Indian parents start giving further emphasis on sports, the country will produce further titleholders across disciplines.
Kapil said the intelligence of Indian parents towards sports have changed drastically over the times, but more needs to be done.
Kapil made the reflections near on the heels of the Indian men badminton platoon's major Thomas Cup triumph on Sunday.
"I feel (it's) the parents, not the kiddies. We produce further croakers, scientists, masterminds in our country because parents want them to. The day parents want their sprat to come a sportsperson, we will produce all titleholders,"Kapil said then on Tuesday.
He was responding to a question by PTI on what changes he has witnessed in Indian sports over the times that's propelling the country's sportspersons to excel on the transnational arena.
Kapil was the guest of honour at a special event hosted by the Consulate General of India in New York as part of the'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' fests to commemorate India's 75 times of independence. The event was attended by members of the Indian diaspora and cricketing suckers.
Kapil, considered one of the topmost all-rounders of all time, cited an illustration in this regard, saying if his son had to appear for 10th grade examination and contemporaneously play for inferior India, he'd tell her to" go and study".
"But in America or Europe or Australia, they will say drop this time, play for inferior for your country and coming time you give test. That study process in our country hasn't changed yet," said Kapil, who guided the Indian justice platoon to its major 1983 World Cup palm.
"But it's changing. That is why I said parents are more important than the kiddies in our society, the way we are."
Recalling his time as a youthful sprat, Kapil noted that he used to hide his sports tackle in his academy bag and still go out and play, a script which has changed drastically with parents encouraging their children to take up sports.
" Moment I feel so proud to see the parents taking their kiddies to come and play."
In his reflections, Kapil said that at 75, India is a" youthful country"which has achieved what not numerous in the world have managed to do.
Consul General Randhir Jaiswal said the event celebrates the success of the fabulous cricketer and"through his achievements, celebrates the donation of justice and sports in nation- structure".
He said Kapil's donation to the game of justice and 1983 World Cup title under his leadership is" ever etched in our minds."
In December last time, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul inked a legislation that recognises the sport of justice as an important part of the social and artistic fabric of New York State, and expands the State's capacity to officially promote the sport.
"The legislation was patronized by Senator Kevin Thomas, the first Indian-American to serve in the New York State Legislature and Assembly member Nily Rozic".
On the occasion, Thomas presented Kapil with a dupe of the instrument inked by the Governor" publicizing justice as a sport that's good then in the state of New York."
