India defeated England by 50 runs in the first T20 international played at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. Hardin Panda was declared the Man of the Match. He scored 33-ball 51 runs and clinched four wickets. Batting first, India scored 198 runs in 20 overs. In response, England were all out for 148 runs in the 20th over.
Southampton: India on Thursday defeated England in the first T20 international played at The Rose Bowl in Southampton by 50 runs. HARDIN PANDA's all-around performance earned him the Man of the Match award. Panda scored 33-ball 51 runs and also clinched four English wickets.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who missed the fifth test match against England last week due to COVID-19, won the toss and was elected to bat first. India got off to a flying start. Sharma scored a quick 24 runs off 14 balls. He was dismissed by Moeen Ali. Eshan Krishan looked uncomfortable on the crease throughout his innings of eight runs off 10 balls. He was the second victim of Ali.
Suryakumar Aadav and Deepak Hood a played aggressive cricket. Both put on 43 runs partnership. India lost the third wicket on 89 runs after Hood a was caught by Tymal Mills off Chris Jordan's bowling. He scored 33 runs. Jordan also dismissed Aadav. Pandya played some good shots. He along with Axr Patel took the team's score to 171 runs. Axar was dismissed on 17 runs. Soon after completing his half-century, Panda was dismissed by Reece Hopley.

Chasing the target of 199 runs, England had a shaky start. They lost their captain Jos Buttler on a golden duck in the very first over. Buttler was bowled by Bhubaneshwar Kumar. In his first over Pandya gave a double blow to England by dismissing danger-looking David Malan and Liam Livingstone.
The star Indian all-rounder again struck in his second over. He dismissed Jason Roy on four runs. Sam Curran was Pandya's fourth victim. England were all out for 148 runs in 19.3 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal and debutant Arshdeep Singh clinched two wickets each, while Harshal Patel took one wicket. Hardik Pandya became the first Indian to take four wickets and score a half century in a T20I match. India have dominated England throughout the match, keeping their mighty batting lineup pinned in the powerplay and after that. Bhuvneshwar Kumar started out by dismissing Jos Buttler for a golden duck in his first match as England's full-time white-ball captain.
