In the evening of Diwali our burning of stakes was completed in total 3 rounds. In the first round only fireworks and trumpets were lit. In the second round, firecrackers and trumpets were lit less, but, a large number of phuljhuris, rangamshal, ghatbaji, charki and tarabaji were lit. However, Ghatbaji and Charki were burnt the most in the second round. The third round was the round of burning Rangmashal, Phuljhuri and Tarabaji only. A very small amount of bonfire was lit in this round.
We burned the stake for a total of one and a half hours in three rounds. However, very few bets were bought this year. Every year during Diwali-Kalipuja we burn the stake for an hour and a half every day for a week. This is the only exception. However, there was no shortage of joy.
Every year we go to buy baji at baji market in Nilganj a week before Diwali. This betting market is quite big. The market starts a couple of weeks before Diwali and continues till the night of Kali Puja. There are two markets in Nilganj sitting together. An old hut, another new hut two kilometers away from it. This market sits on both sides of the village road and is about a mile long. Feet hurt while walking. There are hundreds of unknown bets of all kinds sold in the bazaar. Bets worth more than crores of rupees are sold every day at this betting shop in Nilganj.
This year, due to a lot of pressure from the administration, the betting market in Nilganj was closed. It is not forbidden to make, sell and burn bets in India. But, due to the explosion of a big baji factory in Nilganj this year, the administration did not allow the establishment of baji haat in Nilganj. The explosion happened while making a bomb under the cover of allegations.
