    The various types of emergency have been classified and in general, each type requires a different response and action, involving different people of an Organization. By classifying the types of emergencies, it is possible to ensure that the people who are required to be informed and told without delay are getting immediate information

Possible Emergencies include:

 Incidents leading to serious injuries or ill health:

3.    Fall of load being lifted

     1.    Gas Cylinder involved in Fire & Explosion.

2.    Fire in a store/ storage area.

3.    Fire in the work area.

Release of Hazardous Materials/ Gases

Civil Disturbance:

1.    Terrorism.

2.    Sabotage.

3.    Workplace violence.

Natural Calamities:

1.    Natural disasters.

2.    Bad weather.

Responsibilities

Incident Emergency Controller:

1.    Project/Site In charge will be the Incident Emergency Controller for this project

2.    He will be the overall controller of the Emergency Situation.

3.    He will be having unlimited power to handle the emergency.

4.    All employees are obliged to follow his instruction of him during an emergency. The overall responsibility lies with the Project Manager for ensuring that a proper arrangement and necessary support service are in place for effective implementation of this procedure.

5.    Immediately arrange for an informal on spot meeting of the emergency members preferably at the conference hall to the stock of the situation and initiated necessary measures.

6.    Take on spot decision on the procedure to be adopted based on the nature and extent of the emergency.

7.    Authorized committee members and other personnel to carry out the specified task as described in the ERP / on spot meeting.

8.    Arrange all the required facilities through administration for the necessary medical aid, manpower, conveyance etc.

9.    Communicate the occurrence of emergency and steps being taken, to the client, and other concerned officials at Head office if necessary

 1.2 HSE Team:

      1.    HSE Manager/Sr. HSE Advisor will be supporting Incident Emergency

2.    Controller during an emergency.

3.    Inform the Project Manager and co-ordinate the Evacuation process

4.    Organize Fire Fighting and Aid treatment immediately.

5.    Co-ordinate and Assist in the evacuation process.

6.    Report the accident to site management and clients.

7.    Collect all relevant information, witness for investigation.

8.    Investigate the accident and suggested suitable remedial measures.

9.    Ensure implementation of the remedial measures.

10.  Create awareness among the staff/students regarding the Emergency

           11.  Evacuation Procedure through various interactions.

1.3 Medical Team: (MEDIC / FIRST AIDERS):

1.    Rushes to the location with medical aid.

2.    If the First Aider finds that the injured can be attended in the First-Aid centre, he will bring the injured to the First-Aid centre for treatment.

3.    If treatment in the First-Aid centre is not advisable, they will send the injured to approved Hospital

1.4 Fire Wardens:

1.    Fight the Fire if it is minor and safe for them to do so.

2.    Try to prevent the spreading of fire by isolation.

3.    Ensure all the people are evacuated using the nearest escape gate to the Assembly Point.

4.    To manage the firefighting team.

1.5 All employees:

        Try to reach the nearest Assembly Point which is situated inside the premises of poet coke facility. Use the nearest escape gate for evacuation during the emergency and follows the instruction of the emergency team members.

Emergency Response Training:

The Emergency Team members shall be trained on the Emergency Procedures. All employees in the project shall be trained on what action to be taken in case of emergency.

Selected Team (Consists of Supervisor, Engineer) shall receive the training on Firefighting and Basic Life Support Training.

Accident Response Procedure (General):

1. Give first aid to the causality if you are a trained First Aider.

2. If not, never leave the causality alone or unattended.

Emergency Procedure:

Initiate any emergency procedures when notified of an accident by contacting the client Emergency Number and HSE Manager / Project In-charge

Give the following information to the operator:

1.    Who you are?

2.    Where you are?

3.    Which Site are you in?

4.    What is your contact number?

5.    What is the emergency?

6.    Medical support required?

7.    Fire Support required?

Don’t hang until it is confirmed by the operator that all the required information received by the operator. Keep in touch with emergency service until they reach you.

Electrical Accident Response Procedure:

 In an electrical accident, there may be one or more causalities due to electrocution. Generally, causalities will be unconscious / or might have a mental shock.

Emergency Procedure:

Initiate any emergency procedures when notified of an accident by contacting the client Emergency Number and Emergency Number

Give the following information to the operator:

1.    Who you are?

2.    Where you are?

3.    Which Site are you in?

4.    What is your contact number?

5.    What is the emergency?

6.    Medical support required?

7.    Fire Support required?

Don’t hang until it is confirmed by the operator that all the required information received by the operator.

Do not try to rescue the casualties before cutting off the electrical supply, even the supply has already tripped. Alternatively, you should separate the casualty from the electric wire using a non-conductor such as wood, stick or nylon rope. In case of mental shock, but consciousness, make him comfortable by talking to him. Remove the casualty to the nearest clinic/hospital as fast as possible with the available transport.
