You can create the coolest, best looking and most exciting online store ever created,
and fail miserably unless you choose a profitable niche. Specialized selection is like that
important that it can literally make or break your success.
A good niche should:
Have a medium to large audience
Have low to moderate competition
Have buyers who are passionate about the niche
Have products priced high enough to be profitable
You want to make sure there are enough people who are interested in the niche
support a large number of sales, but you don't want the niche to be so saturated
that it is hard to earn.
You want a market where buyers are passionate or who really need it
product. It will be difficult to make good money selling common products
unless you have a very unique selling point, such as a drastically lower price, or
a kind of value-added point of sale. You want to sell products that people will be
excited about the purchase and that they will keep coming back.
You want to make sure you have products that can be high enough to produce
you have a good product without being driven out of the market. you probably won't
make a lot of money selling products for under a dollar because you won't
able to build a large enough market quickly enough, but a product priced at ten
dollars or more would probably be enough to justify opening a store. OF
Of course there are people who have made a fortune with very cheap products,
but it requires more volume than a beginner could probably handle.
A good starting point for niche research is to simply create your own list
hobbies, interests, areas of expertise and needs. The more you know about a
specific item when you open a shop, the easier it will be for you to source
products people would want to buy and find the right marketing channels
reach a mainstream audience.
Once you have a list of at least 10-20 topics, you can start researching them
serious. You want to find out how many people might be interested in each
potential niche, how many products are out there that you could sell and how
a large profit margin would be possible.
There are many different ways to do this, but one of the most popular ways is
check Amazon. Start by looking for individual products to buy in a
specific niche. For example, if you want to explore a golf course, search
things like golf clubs and golf balls and find out the bestseller rating for each
product. This gives you a general idea of how well individual products are selling.
You want to be able to find at least a few products that sell well enough to be among them
top 10,000 in your major and top 1,000 would be even better.
Here's an example from a live listing on Amazon for a specific brand of gold balls:
This product is currently #857 in its main category (Sports & Outdoors) which
shows that there is a strong market for golf balls, especially when I look at others
products in the category Golf balls. The best product in this category is #125 inches
Sports & Outdoors.
By now, you should be aware that strong demand within a major category may not
always means huge sales. Some categories will have lower sales than others
course. But this will give you a general idea if there is a niche market
