Cholesterol is a white, waxy substance that is essential for survival. It is found in all human and animal cells. Our liver produces cholesterol; It is also found in different amounts in the food we eat. Blood carries cholesterol to the cells in the form of lipoproteins; Lipoproteins include cholesterol, fats, and proteins. The two types of lipoproteins that carry most blood-cholesterol are low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL).

Most cells in the body have such receptors; They take in some LDL. But it is designed so that 70% of the activity of LDL receptors taking LDL from the bloodstream takes place in the liver.
HDL, on the other hand, are cholesterol-thirsty molecules. As they enter the bloodstream, they absorb excess cholesterol and carry it to the liver.
The problem occurs when there is an excess of LDL in the blood. This increases the possibility of thickening of the arterial walls. As the psoriasis progresses, the arteries become thinner and less oxygenated blood can flow through them. This is what is called atherosclerosis. It takes place slowly and without symptoms; It can take decades for its symptoms to show. One symptom is a heart attack or stroke, as Joe experienced.
When the coronary artery is completely occluded by a blood clot, the part of the heart that receives blood from that artery dies. The result is a sudden onset, often known as myocardial infarction, or what is commonly known as a heart attack. Even if the coronary artery is partially occluded, it can lead to death of the heart tissue; It probably would not have caused any significant physical discomfort. Clogging of arteries in other parts of the body can also lead to strokes, leg rot, and even kidney failure.
So it is not surprising that LDL is called bad cholesterol and HDL is called good cholesterol. The higher the LDL or the lower the HDL, the higher the risk of heart disease. * A simple blood test can tell you about the impending danger, long before obvious symptoms such as a heart attack appear.
