HOW YASHASVI JAISWAL BECAME THE MOST ASTONISHING YOUNG INDIAN CRICKETER
As evidenced by his performance in the IPL and domestic cricket for Mumbai in the early 2020s, Yashasvi Jaiswal has evolved from his Under-19 days to represent boldness and a strong hitting style, to which he has also managed to add consistency.
Jaiswal migrated to Mumbai for cricket at the age of twelve from rural Uttar Pradesh. He made pocket money by selling Pani puri and sleeping in tents. Jaiswal's career took started when a local coach named Jwala Singh saw him at Azad Maidan and took him under his wing two years later.
Jaiswal scored 113, 22, 122, 203, and 60 not out in the 50-overs domestic Vijay Hazare Trophy in October 2019. Rain forced Mumbai to withdraw from the tournament, ending Jaiswal's streak. He was India's batting cornerstone at the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa the following year, where the team placed second and he was named Player of the Tournament. His signing with the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 2.4 crores (about US$ 338,000) cleared the path for a large payout at the IPL.
The transition from dominating U-19 attackers to tearing apart domestic bowlers wasn't entirely seamless, but Jaiswal claimed that his confidence was bolstered by his dedication and long hours honing his technique and skills at the Royals school when training resumed following COVID. In 2021–22, his first full Ranji Trophy season, he helped Mumbai reach the final by scoring three consecutive hundreds.
Together with Jos Buttler, Jaiswal has established a formidable opening combination at Royals, where he was kept before the 2022 campaign began. With just 13 balls, he broke the previous record for the fastest fifty in the history of the 2023 Indian Premier League.
