At present, there is a plan to build a sports complex with international standard stadium at Barghasipur mouza on 118 side of National Highway 41 in Haldia. The 35,000-seat stadium, an indoor stadium, swimming pool, training ground, and modern hostel for residential athletes were designed. Haldia municipality has an agreement with a private company for the construction. The then Purboard Board decided to lease about 36 acres of land to the private company to build the stadium. In addition, 26 acres of land was given to the construction company for construction of housing. Well, the sale of the flats will be invested by the company to build the stadium. The foundation stone of the stadium was laid by the then Sports Minister Subhash Chakraborty on January 24, 2004. Although the construction of the stadium has started, it has come to a halt. According to Haldia municipality sources, the construction of the stadium has been stopped for a long time. Following the demands of the local people, the municipality plans to start Sekaj on its own initiative. The municipality also allocated Tk 5 crore for this in the budget of 2019-20. By 2020, the city authority has canceled the contract with the construction company. The agency then filed a case in the High Court. After becoming the new chairman in 2021, he became active in building the stadium again. He said, “There have been some problems with the land of the stadium for a long time since the Left era. Changing the character of the land did not mean land conversion. Recently the character of the land has changed. The problem has been solved by meeting with the construction company earlier. He has promised to invest crores of rupees by preparing a new DPR of the stadium. Work will start in January. So far the industrial city has not had an international standard stadium. Citizens are happy with the news of the construction of a new international standard stadium.
