“The first thing I thought of when we started having the discussion was that maybe our children would get more involved in remote learning, but my husband is an accountant, so he said, “why not just work from home while they are at school?”

“I had never thought about all the administrative aspects of running a business, you know what I mean? You have to pay taxes, you have to pay people and tell them what to do, but let me try to keep it simple and say if someone wants to work from home and is able to get their child to work from home, I’ll take that offer.”

But there are some things that she also has to deal with. “There is no one-to-one time with my manager, so I have to figure out how much the day’s work will be worth, or whether I can be as productive as I want. So I’ve been trying to make sure I’m meeting my deadlines and being more efficient, especially because some of these clients are small businesses.

“In terms of work, I could spend two days away from my computer screen, but I’m finding that people want to see me on anything, so we have to make up for those hours in the afternoon or evening. We’re both working extra hard at making sure everything goes smoothly.

“I don’t think people see us as stressed over work now. It’s more important than ever to put aside your own life, don’t forget your family, and enjoy this company of yours.” (The views expressed here are entirely his own)

She got her job in September after graduating from university with honors with a degree in communication, and a diploma in media, advertising, and social media.

“We’re planning to start up the company soon, and so I really want to focus on getting that off the ground early, but then we’ll have to work on building a team and hopefully find some good customers who will want to hire us, too. One of the reasons why I wanted to go back to work was because it is what I love doing, so I’d like to spend as much time working on that as I do on other stuff, I guess.

“I think working from home would be a lot easier for everyone, particularly for those people who have kids or care for young kids, because of course, our office is just one room in a house, so everyone doesn’t have to get up every morning like the rest of the world. There are no kids and pets and office meetings. Just work and play. On top of that, I don’t need to commute anymore. The same, I really don’t need to leave home for anything, so I’m looking forward to that!”

‘That’s why I’m quite happy to be taking the next step with myself while it involves working from home. Especially since a lot of small companies require four full days of work before they can start paying. This will give me enough time to build a better system and get the right tools to use and set the best systems. I have already booked the day, but what I’m not going to do is spend most of them catching up on emails or waiting for something from another client. Or maybe doing research, or even doing the writing. But instead, I’m going to focus on the quality I’m delivering to the customers because sometimes that is what matters if nothing else. And that might not cost me much until I start turning in more work.'
