The second component of Burris MIND/FITNESS is your subconscious images. I will explain how to replace your negative subconscious images with positive images using the practice of guided visualization. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, visualization is the fourth most commonly used form of alternative healing. Now you are about to learn how to change your existing subconscious images that keep you anchored in your bad eating behaviors. Several studies have shown that the body makes little distinction between a vivid mental experience and an actual physical experience. Your subconscious images are simply the corresponding images of your own speech. Choosing to think in pictures may seem strange at first, but it's a powerful way to bridge the chatter in your head and a realistic resource for communicating with your subconscious. It's surprisingly easy to create your own idea of a weight goal. With regular practice, you will become more and more comfortable in your imagination. Think of it as creative constructive daydreaming. Most people do not realize that there is always a corresponding image for their thoughts or self-talk; the fact is that they happen so quickly that you are not aware of them. If you didn't use pictures, you wouldn't be able to answer the simplest question. Think about it. If I asked you: What did you have for breakfast this morning? You immediately repeat my question to yourself, which in turn conjures up in your subconscious an image of what you had for breakfast. Only after you run this image are you able to answer my question. You will find that your subconscious mind defines its images more clearly from questions than from statements. As an example, say body relax. You can see that it has little or no effect. Now turn this statement into a question: What do I need to do to relax? The subconscious now creates an active image. For example, you can see yourself relaxing in your favorite chair or taking a warm soothing bath or getting a massage. You can see how the skilled hands of the masseuse gently ease the tension from your body. You can feel the amazing sensation as your body starts to relax and you feel like you are floating in the air. Now I'm sure you understand the power of visualization and how you can use your own questions to achieve it. The most important image you will ever change in your subconscious mind is the image you have of your body or how you feel about your self-image. All people who have a weight problem have adopted an image of themselves as being overweight. Until you change this image, your subconscious will use this existing body image as a guide to how you should look. This is why it is imperative that you change the image you have of yourself before starting a weight loss program. I will talk about how to change your subconscious images in my next article Changing Subconscious Images for Permanent Weight Loss. Regardless of weather, your health goal is to change your diet to lose weight, increase your fitness program, or take control of an eating disorder like anorexia or bulimia. Ultimately, the question you have to ask yourself is, “Am I completely content with the mind running on its own, or do I need to take control of it? If your answer is I need to take control, then Burris MIND/FITNESS is the answer. The health of your body depends on your mental health, and taking control of your subconscious mind is the key to making any lasting, lasting behavior change.
