How Vuno's AI-powered fundus reading solution approved for sales in Taiwan

The AI solution provides major findings for the diagnosis of retinal diseases by locating abnormalities such as cruses, hemorrhage and hard exudate, detecting the abnormalities in fund us images and presenting patient reports.   The AI solution also earned a marketing license from Singapore's Health Sciences Authority (HSA) in September of this year.                Including Fund us AI, Vino has earned FDA’s marketing approvals for its three medical solutions in a bid to expand its business in the Asia-Pacific region.                                                                 It has received licenses for Vino Med-Chest X-ray, which assists in readings of common thoracic abnormalities on chest radiographs and Vino Med-Bone Age, a diagnostic solution that provides assessments of bone age on hand x-ray images.                                           In January 2021, Vino signed an exclusive distributorship agreement with Taiwan’s CHC Healthcare Group for its four AI products, the three solutions with FDA’s approval and Vino Med-Lung CT AI.                          CHC Healthcare, a leading distributor of medical equipment and pharmacy chain operator in Taiwan, is in charge of Vino products’ local licensing, marketing, promotion and sales.                The company began developing a medical robot specialized for neurosurgery in 2011, thanks to a project by The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy aimed at developing source technology in the robotics arena.                                              In late 2016, KO Young acquired a permit to manufacture and sell Khmer from The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, which performs a similar function to the US Food and Drug Administration. 
Honda University’s Severance Hospital was the first to adopt the robot in October 2020 after clinical trials. Samsung Medical Center followed suit from last July.                      Together, the two hospitals have successfully conducted 100 neurosurgery using Khmer.             Medical robots guide a procedure by providing a real-time surgery route based on a patient’s video footage, which allows for a quicker and more accurate operation.                                           KO Young Technology Inc., a South Korean 3D imagery tech company listed on the Kodak, announced on Tuesday that its medical robot Khmer has conducted a total of 100 brain surgeries.                                                        The company began developing a medical robot specialized for neurosurgery in 2011, thanks to a project by The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy aimed at developing source technology in the robotics arena.                                                     KO Young plans to raise product awareness by expanding its demo sessions to a broader number of hospitals within Korea and by attending neurosurgery conferences at home and abroad. 
A company official told The Korea Economic Daily that it plans to target the international medical robot market by obtaining approval from the US Food and Drug Administration and China’s National Medical Products Administration.                                                   When it comes to the global startup ecosystem, South Korean cities, including the capital Seoul, often do not come to investors’ minds before Silicon Valley, New York City, or London.                                                Corporate Korea is better known for its family-owned conglomerates like Samsung or LG, instead of bootstrapping startups founded by college dropouts. 
Despite the country being the fourth-largest economy in Asia and the tenth-largest in the world, Lento Ventures’ Partner Sang Han said the fact that you can make money by investing in Korean startups is still uncommon knowledge.
