For a long time, a face mask has been used by healthcare workers during the treatment of patients having respiratory diseases. The use of this personal protective equipment limits the rate of transmission of respiratory infections such as influenza, tuberculosis, and covid disease. In the current situation of this pandemic, the use of face masks is restricted not only to health care workers but also to every human being to decrease the transfer rate of the coronavirus. The World Health Organization recommends the use of face masks for the sake of reduction in the transfer rate of causative agents. The use of facemask should be practiced by everyone. It will somehow save a person from diseases having respiratory mode of transmission. Daily use of facemask will show a significant reduction in transmission rate of infection from one person to the other. It acts as a protective tool to stop the entry of pathogens in a person's mouth and nose.
The coronavirus disease pandemic has entirely changed the world we live in. Undoubtedly, the daily use of a face mask will limit the spread of infection. A face mask will also save you from air pollutants, pollens, dust, and smog specifically if you are an asthmatic and hypersensitive person. A face mask works as a protective barrier to prevent the entry of splashes, sprays, splatter, and all other respiratory contaminants into the wearer's mouth and nose. During talking, coughing, and sneezing, we release several infectious agents that might be invisible to eyes. The presence of such infectious agents will harm the person who is standing in front of the releaser without maintaining a suitable distance from the releaser. Wearing a proper and protected mask, by following all the guidelines for wearing the mask, is everyone's responsibility.
Wearing a mask in places where social distancing is difficult to practice, such as public transport and markets, is important to reduce the spread of respiratory contaminants and therefore reduce the transfer rate of Covid disease. With regards to professions, dentists are always in close contact with the patient's mouth. So, to limit the spread of cross-infection and the health of dentists, the use of a standard surgical mask by the dentist is beneficial for both the dentist and the patient. The novel coronavirus has an incubation period of fourteen days in which the patient might show no symptoms but can transfer this virus to other persons and spread infection. Daily use of the facemask helps to prevent the spread of infections from an asymptomatic active carrier to a healthy human being. Strict adherence to face mask guidelines,[1] will help to decrease spikes in COVID 19 cases.
Wearing a mask gives a false feeling of health security to the wearer. The wearer starts violating other precautionary measures. We need to understand the fact that wearing a mask will just decrease the rate of spread and it will never stop the spread of infection. So just wearing the same mask daily again and again will do more harm than good and cause the increase in spread of infection
By considering the above statements we have come to the conclusion that daily use of a facemask proves to be an effective strategy in dealing with airborne and respiratory contaminants and in starting a normal life without hurting the economy of the world.[2]
MY MASK PROTECTS YOU. YOUR PROTECTS ME.
Everyone must follow the proper guidelines of wearing a face mask to limit the mode of transmission of pathogens. Wearing a Face Mask is one of the best strategies in limiting transfer rates of infection and in saving lives. The utilization of face masks along with practicing social distancing and hand washing is a successful approach in preventing spread of infection (WHO, 2020).
