If you are looking for a way to market your website, and have not considered using eBay, you may have missed one of the cheapest website marketing options. Let me explain ...
Everyone is looking for a way to generate targeted website traffic at very low cost, but it seems that most people are ignoring a website marketing tool that is probably already marked within their browser - eBay.
eBay has over 65 million registered users who buy, sell and browse all kinds of products day and night. Just think, what if we (website owners) had a way to put one of those cars on our website? Yes, we can, and we can do it cheaply!
The key to achieving this is the eBay 'Me' page. An eBay Me page is a type of profile page that sets up your eBay ID. If potential customers look at your auctions, as well as your ID, they will see a small image of the ‘I’ icon linking to yours, My page. And it is very important to note: yours, My page can link to your website.
Let's see how this might be done, for example. Suppose you have a website that sells how to make money using Pay-Per-Click (PPC) search engines, and you want to get traffic from eBay to this website.
A good way to do this is to create a small PPC Advertising report that you can market on eBay. This report should contain useful information, but you should also pre-sell your main product - your PPC study on your website. Your PPC report should be something you are willing to give or sell for very little money, in the following example, you will sell it for 99 cents.
You will then need two more items: an attractive auction ad, and 'a', My attractive page that returns visitors to your website.
Now you are ready to open your auction. The specific auction you will create should be a Featured Plus Auction, which means it is displayed at the top of the auction list before the auctions are not included (regular auctions). You will also want the auction to be on a Dutch auction, which means you can sell more items at the same auction. The Featured Plus auction will cost, about $20.00 to ship, plus $5-$6 of mixed shipping costs including Dutch auction. So your cost of selling a low-cost report in this way will usually be $26.00
Now, I hate to go beyond statistics because there is so much that contributes to the result of those statistics, but let me pull out some common scenarios as I have encountered.
If your auction has an attractive theme, you can get 100-300 visitors to your auction. I have personally seen auctions selling home business information products to over 1500 visitors! Suppose you get 150. Of those 150, about 20% will visit your website with yours, My page, which works for about 30 visits, and my experience.
For every 150 visits at your auction, you will generate some sales for your report. If a copy of the auction is good, it rarely gets a 10% - 20% sale, especially in the 99 cents range, which applies to 15-30 purchases. Suppose you generate 15% sales, which applies to 22 sales (downtime).
Now let's get it all together. At the end of the auction, you spent $26.00 on the auction itself. You made $22.00 on report sales. You have also generated visits to 30 websites. When we do the math, you go out and pay about 13 cents per website visitor ($26.00- $22.00 / 30 visit). Also, you have a copy of your report in the hands of about 22 hot people (remember, your report pre-sells your PPC website study). Could it be better than that? The answer is yes! I have always been careful with these statistics. The fact is, you can make money and drive traffic to your website by doing something / fixing it.
It is interesting to note that, at the time of writing, Overture was charging anywhere from $0.51 for 10th place and $2.55 for the 1st place of the keyword “PPC”. In our example, we have made 30 visits for 13 cents per visit from one auction. What if you had 10 or 30 of these types of auctions working?
Granted, I realize that this example may not be appropriate for everyone, but you should be able to apply it to some degree.
The formula is really simple:
1. Sell something related to your website that you can donate or sell for very little money. Complete product information.
2. Then make sure your auction (and the auction title) are extremely attractive - try to drive as many people as possible into your auction.
3. Then make sure yours, My page takes the visitor to your website (maybe provide something for free, like another report).
Try it… you may need to adjust it here or there… but the formula works.
