The federal cabinet approved the national energy conservation plan on Tuesday during a meeting presided over by Prime Minister S H-E H B-A Z Sharif. It includes drastic measures like requiring markets and restaurants to close at 8 p-m, allowing 20% of government employees to work from home, introducing electric motorbikes, using energy-efficient light bulbs and fans, solarizing government buildings, water conversation, rain harvesting, and the use of "conical baffle" devices in gas geysers, among other things.
In a press conference following the meeting, the Defense Minister stated that the cabinet had decided that the emergency plan would be discussed with the provinces for two days, on Tuesday and Wednesday, and would be finalized on Thursday for implementation.
The nation's overall way of life and routine will be altered by the plan, which will improve family life. He added, "It will also bring back our tradition and family values", referring to the plan, which was analogous to those that numerous governments have previously announced but failed to implement.

He stated that wedding halls would only be open until 10 p-m, and that restaurants, hotels, and markets would close at 8 p-m However, he mentioned the possibility of an hour-long extension to the restaurant closing time. We can save Rs62 billion annually by doing this, he added.
He stated that energy-efficient lighting fixtures and fans would soon be available for purchase, resulting in additional savings of Rs38 billion. In a similar vein, we would be able to save Rs4 billion if streetlights were used in their place.
In addition, the minister disclosed that the government was in talks with motorcycle manufacturers about electric bikes in order to phase out gasoline-powered bikes, a move that he hoped would save approximately Rs8 billion.
