New Parents:
Bringing a new baby home brings a lot of new responsibilities and challenges. Is there such a thing as a normal day and night for new parents? Probably not!
Remember, the baby has just undergone a major change, so part of the process when you bring him home for the first time is his transition from the womb to the outside world. Keep the baby close to you, keep it folded and warm.
Good News
Congratulations! You may be pregnant or have just had a baby (and good luck if you have time to read this)! There is no greater feeling than having just had a baby. So why not always feel good about yourself?
Are you Stressed
However, even the best of events can be stressful. Having a baby is fun for everyone. He has been with the company since the time of delivery. If you are a mother for the first time, hospitals do not give you much help or advice; they send you home with this new creature with a range of needs that you should try to interpret. At least not long enough to allow you to get much-needed rest.
Add to that the hormonal changes in your body, and you have a proven formula that will stress you out. Sometimes you think you will never sleep again a full night. Until the child stays in the program, he probably will not!
To help you get through those first few weeks and months, here are some tips to help you get at least some sleep.
First, don’t try to be a supermom. When the baby is about to fall asleep, take a short nap yourself. The dirty clothes and the dishes can be clean after nap. You do not need a perfect home. There will be a time for all that; take a break whenever you have the opportunity.
Second, If you have a good friend or relative who will help you, definitely use that afternoon. Granny may have a chance to have a baby by herself for a few hours!
If you put the baby to bed at night, take the time to relax and get some rest so, you can have a better night's sleep. Sometimes it is difficult even for a new baby to fall asleep quickly. There is so much to learn!
As a new mom, you are probably going to wonder if your baby is getting enough sleep, or sleeping too much. There are guidelines as to what to expect, but these may vary from one child to another. Even if you have had children before, each child will be different.
Newborn babies usually sleep about 16-17 hours in a 24-hour period. Most babies will not sleep through the night until they are at least 3 months old. There are several reasons why. First, their stomachs are very small, they will starve quickly, especially if you are breastfeeding your baby. Breast milk is easier to digest than bottle milk, and your baby will need to eat more often, especially in the beginning.
