A forest is basically a piece of land consisting of many, numerous trees and different varieties of plants. These beautiful creations of nature act as homes for various species of animals. A vast land area covered by dense trees, shrubs, shrubs and various types of plants is known as forest. There are many types of forests around the world which are home to different types of flora and fauna.

Preface

Forest is generally referred to as a vast area that contains a wide variety of plants and trees. It is a habitat for various species of wild animals and birds. Forests are made up of different layers which have their own importance and function.

Importance of forests

Forest is an important part of the ecosystem. The need to preserve forests and grow more trees is often emphasized. Some of the major reasons for doing this are as follows:

Purification of the atmosphere

It is common knowledge that plants take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. They also absorb other greenhouse gases which are harmful to the atmosphere. Trees and forests help us to clean the entire air as well as the environment.

Environment control

trees and soil regulate atmospheric temperature through the process of evaporation. It helps in stabilizing the climate. The forest keeps the temperature cool. They also have the ability to create their own microclimates. For example, the Amazon creates atmospheric conditions that promote regular rainfall over the surrounding regions.

Animal and bird habitat

The forests serve as a home for many species of wild animals and birds. Thus, they are a great tool for maintaining biodiversity, which is very important for maintaining a healthy environment.

Natural watershed

Trees create shade on the rivers and lakes coming out of the forests and keep them from drying out.

Source of wood

is used to make various pieces of furniture along with tables, chairs and beds among other items. Forests serve as a source of different types of forest.

Means of livelihood,

Millions of people around the world directly or indirectly depend on forests for their livelihood. About 10 million people are directly employed in the conservation and management of forests.

Thus forests are important for the survival of mankind. From the fresh air to the wood that we use as bedding to sleep – it all comes from forests.

Preface

Forest is a vast expanse of trees. There are different types of forests around the world. These are classified on the basis of their type of soil, trees and other species of flora and fauna. A large part of the earth is covered with forests.

Origin of the word forest

The word forest is derivative from the French word, meaning to be dominated by trees and plants on a large scale. It was introduced as an English word that referred to the wild land that people had explored for hunting. This land may or may not be occupied by trees. If this was the case, some claimed that the word forest was derived from the Medieval Latin word "forest" meaning open wood. In Medieval Latin, CNG. 

Different layers in the forest 

is made up of different layers which together play their part in holding a place. These layers include forest land, understory, canopy, and emergent layer. These are large strata present in tropical forests. Here is information about each of these layers:

Forest floor

This layer includes components of leaves, dead plants, twigs and dissections of trees and animals. The decay of these things creates new soil and also provides essential nutrients to the plants.

Understory

This layer is made up of shrubs, shrubs and trees that are used to grow and live in the shade of the trees. It is known to be devoid of enough sunlight.

Canopy

 It is formed when a large numerous branches, twigs and leaves of large trees are joined together. These fully grown trees receive the maximum amount of sunlight and form a protective layer for other plants and trees in the forest. This is known as the thickest layer. It restricts rain by reaching plants and trees. Monkeys, frogs, sloths, snakes, lizards and various species of birds are known to live here.

Emergent layer

This layer, which is a part of the tropical rainforest, is made up of scattered tree branches and leaves, which form the top layer of the canopy. The tallest trees reach this place and form a part of this layer. 

Conclusion

Forest is an essential part of the environment. However, unfortunately, humans are cutting down trees to fulfill various purposes, which is deteriorating the ecological balance. The need to save trees and forests should be taken more seriously.
