Saudi companies will work on executing these plans to be part of NEOM, al-Nasr said.
According to the chief executive, work is under way in NEOM’s industrial city of OXAGON while work to execute projects which pertain to residential areas and surrounding islands will begin soon.
the future city in NEOM announced by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman earlier this week, al-Nasr said the city’s current design was finalized following meetings for six months with the Crown Prince.
He also said that global leading engineering companies will execute projects in THE LINE, adding that the city’s model represents a global leap the world has seen nothing like before.
“Work on THE LINE’s infrastructure began a year ago, and we are [currently] developing a new technology that has not been implemented before to enhance the quality of life,” he added.
On Monday, the Crown Prince presented the designs of THE LINE which he said offered a model for future cities that face critical environmental challenges.
In January last year, he launched the initial idea and vision of the city that redefines the concept of urban development and what cities of the future should look like.
THE LINE, which is 200 meters wide, 170 kilometers long and 500 meters above sea level.
“We cannot ignore the livability and environmental crises facing our world’s cities, and NEOM is at the forefront of delivering new and imaginative solutions to address these issues. NEOM is leading a team of the brightest minds in architecture, engineering and construction to make the idea of building upwards a reality,” the Crown Prince said.
“THE LINE offers a new approach to urban design: The idea of layering city functions vertically while giving people the possibility of moving seamlessly in three dimensions (up, down or across) to access them is a concept referred to as Zero Gravity Urbanism. Different from just tall buildings, this concept layers public parks and pedestrian areas, schools, homes and places for work, so that one can move effortlessly to reach all daily needs within five minutes,” according to a press release.
“THE LINE will have an outer mirror facade that will provide its unique character and allow even its small footprint to blend with nature, while the interior will be built to create extraordinary experiences and magical moments. It will be created by a team of world-renowned architects and engineers, led by NEOM, to develop this revolutionary concept for the city of the future.”
The Crown Prince had launched in January last year the initial idea and vision of the city that redefines the concept of urban development and what cities of the future should look like.
“The designs of THE LINE embody how urban communities will be in the future in an environment free from roads, cars and emissions. It will run on 100 percent renewable energy and prioritize people's health and well-being over transportation and infrastructure as in traditional cities,” the official Saudi Press Agency reported on the latest reveal.
“It puts nature ahead of development and will contribute to preserving 95 percent of NEOM’s land.”
The announcement revealed the most important characteristics of THE LINE, which is only 200 meters wide, 170 kilometers long and 500 meters above sea level.
