Warp yarn preparation for weaving
Warp and filler yarns must be prepared for weaving before being used on the loom. Each warp end (yarn) must be threaded through its own drop wire, squat eye, and reed dent in order to be ready for weaving. The eye is the opening in a squat that carries the yarn, the drop wire is a device that will stop the loom if one end should break, and the reed comb-like device that will push each filling yarn close against the finished fabric.
The warp threads are either drawn in or tied in before being placed on the loom. Harnesses are the frames that hold the squat wires. The weave determines how many harnesses are needed for the loom.
Preparing the Filler Yarns for Weaving The shuttle, which consists of a wooden carrier into which a quill is inserted, is used to bundle the filling yarn so that it may be quickly unwound for transportation through the shed.

Selvage is the fabric's self-edge along its length on both sides. 1/4 inch, made with warp threads arranged more closely together. The fabric is kept from travelling by the selvage. Typically, it is stronger and more compact than the remainder of the fabric. Plain, split, fused, and tucked selvage are all available.
