Composting
The natural decomposition and recycling of organic material into compost, a humus-rich soil additive, is known as composting. Food waste contains organic material that can be composted to create bio-fertilizer. You may get rid of food waste in your kitchen in this efficient and environmentally beneficial way.
The stinky objects from the kitchen garbage can be transformed into a highly organic, nutrient-rich product that can be used to grow plants or flowers by using leftovers and other food waste. While grass, coffee and tea grounds, fruit, and vegetables are high in nitrogen, paper, twigs, and leaves are rich in carbon. Composting successfully depends on the right mixture.
Composting types
Depending on how the material decomposes, composting can be split into two groups. In anaerobic composting, decomposition takes place in areas with little or no oxygen (O). In this process, anaerobic microorganisms predominate and produce intermediate molecules including methane, organic acids, hydrogen sulphide, and other things. These substances build up in the absence of O and do not undergo further metabolism. Many of these substances have unpleasant smells, and some of them have plant toxicity. Weed seeds and pathogens are not destroyed during the low-temperature process of anaerobic composting. Additionally, it typically requires more time than aerobic composting. The benefits of this process—namely, the minimal labor required and the minimal loss of nutrients—are frequently outweighed by these negatives.
Steps involved in composting
• Peels from fruits and vegetables, tiny portions of leftover cooked food, and other edible kitchen waste should be collected and separated in a container.
• Now gather some dry organic material in a small container, such as wood ash, sawdust, and dried leaves.
• Drill four or five holes around a large container, such as an earthen pot or a bucket, at various levels to allow air inside.
• Soil is now added to the bottom of the container.
• Start layering food waste now, alternating between moist and dry waste (food scraps, vegetable peels, and fruit peels) (straw, sawdust, dried leaves).
• To help maintain moisture and heat, cover this container with a plastic sheet or a piece of wood.
• Every few days, check the container, and if the pile seems too dry, add some water to make it moist.
• To hasten the composting process, you can also add sawdust and wood ash to the compost. The first food remains you should use are the peelings from fruits and vegetables. You need to add some natural waste to your compost, such as grass clippings and leaves from your yard, to create a bio-fertilizer that is rich in nutrients.
Uses of Bio-fertilizers
It enhances the physical characteristics of soil. It raises soil temperature indirectly through improved soil structure and directly by its dark color, which increases soil heat absorption.

It provides nourishment and promotes the development of earthworms and healthy bacteria.
It helps to control some parasites, parasitic illnesses, and plant diseases.
It reduces and kills weed seeds through a mixture of processes, such as rotting, premature germination, and the heat of the compost pile.
