How To Travel Safely With Young Children When You Rent A Car

Holidays are designed to relax, but if you are traveling with young children and need to rent a car at your destination, you should take a moment to read the following tips to ensure a safe and comfortable trip.

The most important thing to remember is to protect your children at any time inside and outside the car. Do not allow any exceptions while you are on vacation.

When booking your vacation car, make sure you book a car seat ahead of time. Baby seats are considered an additional service offered locally. Still, most car rental companies do not guarantee the availability of a suitable safety seat if the service is not booked in advance. Keep in mind that they can sometimes move quickly, especially when traveling during peak hours and/or during school holidays.

If you are traveling with young children (under 6-8 months of age), please ensure that the car rental company ensures the availability of the right size and weight for your baby. Many car rental companies buy baby seats in bulk and offer one standard model that is usually suitable for children from 8 months to 4 years old, but these seats are not enough for children who cannot sit upright. Suppose a car rental company cannot guarantee the type of child seat you need for safety reasons; you should consider bringing in your own restraint. There is no way to drive safely with such young children without a proper car seat.

In most cases, you will be required to install a car seat; renting a car does not usually come with a child seat in the front. Most car rental companies will offer a safety seat when you sign an airline car rental contract. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you previously do something to practice at home to install your safety seat in your car. Most parents put a child seat in their car only once and forget how it was done. It is very frustrating not to figure out how to put a child seat in a rental car, especially after a long trip to call the children in a badly lit parking lot on one of the unknown planes.

Here are some important tips to keep in mind when packing a car and to get ready to leave the airport:

- Under no circumstances should children be left in a rented vehicle without adult supervision.

- Do not put a child seat on the passengers' side when it comes to the airbag or looks for a car rental company to turn off the passenger airbag.

- before taking a double-check and that the child seat is properly fitted. In case of doubt, I try to get advice from a local car rental provider.

- for children under 12, it is always very safe to walk in the back seat of a car.

- Modern cars come with baby locks on the back doors. Always try to use these locks when installed.

- do not keep any loose items in the rental vehicle as this can cause serious injury in the event of an accident.

- keep your children close to all airbags and keep toys and other items out of your children 's airbags.

- don't forget to check the child's position throughout the trip.
